Pink-tutu.com: Blog Post #149

Dearest Diary, darling dears, oh my, oh my, oh my! It’s your girl, Emma, here and welcome to another dazzling journey into the time-traveling world of drag. Oh darling, you’ll not believe where I went this time… oh, let me gather myself and grab a sip of bubbly.

This month’s voyage in my trusty time-traveling pink tutu took me to… May 5th, 1932! Isn't that absolutely divine? Fancy a stroll down the 1930s drag scene? I just know we’ll have a hoot.

The Roaring Twenties? Pssh, darling, we're in the Era of Glamour!

Now, don't you go thinking the 1930s were all flappers and gin joints, because darlings, we’re talking high fashion, grand productions, and the dazzling brilliance of Broadway. This decade wasn’t about the Roaring Twenties anymore, no no, we were all about a certain theatrical finesse.

And, let’s be real, wouldn't a glitzy, feathered headdress with a majestic ostrich plume simply look stunning with this year’s big trend? That's right, darlings, it's all about those elegant ostrich plumes. I simply can’t help but fall in love with these magnificent feathers – I even caught myself whispering ‘Oh, they’re just exquisite, absolutely exquisite!’ as I twirled beneath them at the New York's Palace Theatre, the very heart of glamour!

Drag Scenes Across the Globe: From Broadway to Brighton!

This time, darling, my magical pink tutu brought me to New York City for some pure, unabashed theatrical brilliance! At the Palace Theatre, *I watched *an unforgettable show! A vibrant stage full of colour, the music - simply divine, oh my! There were dancing divas, witty comediennes, and, of course, those breathtaking feather creations! A truly divine sight for the eyes.

But hold on, hold on, darling, the show isn’t just in New York!

Now, I'm off on a jet-set to London. I’m absolutely dying to catch a show at the Alhambra Theatre in Leicester Square. That place is bursting with talent! But, the London drag scene wasn’t confined to theaters.

Let’s step off those marble floors and into the bright lights of the West End, shall we? Imagine Soho, Soho, where a whole scene was burgeoning beneath those brightly lit facades! Bars and cabarets, brimming with energy and excitement! Talk about drag royalty, I'm seeing those incredible characters sashay across those streets, and oh, the sass and the strut!

Back in my lovely hometown of Derbyshire, I couldn’t be more proud. In the 1930s, the Derbyshire scene was flourishing, my love! From charming pubs to welcoming cafes, drag was everywhere you looked. You could see them sashayin' all the way to Buxton, Matlock, and even Chesterfield! Don't you just adore those provincial gems! Imagine our drag divas, wearing their finest fashions, taking center stage at those lovely provincial theaters, darling. It was a time for drag in every corner!

A Day of Inspiration: Dress for the Occasion!

I simply couldn't help myself, I just had to recreate the exquisite look of the era!

For my own dazzling “The Glamour of 1932” drag look, I embraced those iconic shapes. That flowing, silky gown – simply a must-have. Don’t forget the feathers, darlings! Imagine those luxurious ostrich plumes, flowing like an elegant dance. I'm just smitten with a touch of gold jewelry!

And the ultimate must-have, you ask? Why, the divine turban, darling, of course! Those jewels, those pearls… A fabulous headpiece that speaks of sophistication, don’t you think? It’s simply pure *1930s glamour, * darling!

Oh, and how about that makeup! It’s all about the contouring, darlings. Strong cheekbones, a smoky eye - it's the perfect way to create that air of elegance! And that gorgeous lipstick, it's all about a bold red that's perfect for showcasing your ‘I am fabulous!’ aura.
