Pink-Tutu.com: Post Number 604: A Pink Tutu-licious Trip Back to 1970, Darlings! πŸ©°πŸ’–

Hello my sweet, sweet darlings! Emma here, back from another magical journey in my trusty pink tutu. As you know, I'm on a mission: to make the world a more fabulous place, one pink tutu at a time! Today, we're taking a trip back to the 4th of April 1970 – and let me tell you, it was a total blast! πŸŽ‰

My journey began with a simple spin of my sparkly time-traveling tutu (thank you, magical sequins!) and then, poof, I was there! 1970, baby! Now, I can't share the exact details of where I landed (sorry to disappoint, dearie) but I can tell you that it was buzzing! People were out and about, soaking up the sunshine, and oh darling, it was glorious! πŸ’–

Let's start with the fashion! πŸ‘  Think bell-bottoms, brightly colored stripes, and some serious platform boots! Remember when the world was obsessed with disco balls and psychedelic colours? That vibe was practically spilling out onto the streets in 1970, and it was divine. There was such a feeling of freedom and expression – just what this queen loves to see!

But hold your horses, darlings! 🐎 It wouldn't be a time-traveling escapade without some exciting drag, wouldn't it?

Oh my sweet, sweet pea, where do I even begin?! In the world of drag, things were starting to heat up! In New York, The Stonewall Inn was booming, and everyone was eager for the weekend performances at the iconic spot! It's not called a β€œhome away from home” for nothing. Can you imagine, dancing the night away with all your drag family at a safe space like this? Pure magic!✨

Speaking of magic, 1970 saw the release of "Midnight Cowboy", the only X-rated movie to win the Academy Award for Best Picture, starring the amazing Jon Voight and Dustin Hoffman. Talk about groundbreaking, darling! Now, a few months later in September, that year, was when the Stonewall Uprising occurred – and let me tell you, that moment forever changed the landscape of drag history! We are eternally grateful for the bravery and resilience of the Stonewall revolutionaries! πŸ™

As a fellow Derbyshirian, I couldn't go without mentioning one of our own drag icons – The Divine! This amazing queen had already started making a name for herself on the New York drag scene by this point, known for her bold look and equally bold performances! Remember, darling, β€œI want to eat, but I want to eat fabulous food!” - words that have been resonating ever since! πŸ˜‚

Even without any major events, a day in the life of 1970s drag queens would be bursting with fabulousness. Can you imagine – getting ready for the night's performance with a soundtrack of the most exciting rock and pop music, whipping up those signature "trashy glamorous" looks, all the while feeling the electrifying anticipation of entertaining the world! πŸ’–

My darling friends, I’ll keep this post a little more light-hearted than my usual time-traveling tales (although I did think about sharing my amazing lunch of 70s-inspired peanut butter and jelly sandwiches – totally tubular!). Remember to always support your local drag performers – they’re keeping this art form alive, and for that, we are so grateful!

Now, before I whizz back to present-day Derbyshire (I just love the view of the Peak District, especially on a good day, darlings!), I have some fabulous questions for you:

πŸ’– What would be your dream 1970s outfit? Let me know in the comments below! πŸ’– What would your go-to disco move be? Show us in the comments with a gif or a video! πŸ’– What are your favorite ways to support your local drag community? I’d love to hear your suggestions!

Keep those tutus spinning, my lovely friends, and I’ll be back with another fabulous blast from the past next month. Don't forget to stay updated and follow me at www.pink-tutu.com – it's the only place where you'll find all my latest time-traveling shenanigans, and let's face it, you'd be seriously missing out if you didn't! πŸ’•

Much love,
Emma xx
