Hello, my gorgeous girlies! π Welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! This month marks a very special day in my drag diary - July 2000! π For post number 967, Iβve hopped back in time with my trusty magical pink tutu to explore what fabulousness was going down 23 years ago. Buckle up, buttercups, 'cause this one's a rollercoaster of sequins and sparkle! π
Remember that time when everyone suddenly wanted a pair of those sparkly pink ballet pumps? It's a whole mood, and as a ballerina-turned-drag-queen, let me tell you, I absolutely live for this! Thatβs what I call βDrag History in Actionβ, baby! So I had to hop into my time machine, you know? π
Now, before we take a peek into July 2000, I must spill the tea: you know Iβm all about giving back to the community. My next big fundraiser, "Pink Tutus for Everyone", is just around the corner! β¨ I'm aiming to give away free tutus to every single kid in my local Derbyshire community - because every little girl deserves to feel like a princess. If you fancy popping a few quid into my fundraising pot, just check out the link in my bio. π
Alright, so, rewind to July 2000. I had my big sparkly pink feather boa and a brand-new pink tutu, naturally! Let me tell you, these things just did not exist in the β90s - well, not unless you were a seasoned drag queen. But with this new millennium on the horizon, I sensed a change in the air! A change towards tutus! π€©
Anyway, I whipped into my fabulous pink tutu and headed to The Cock, my fave queer club in London town. The energy was electric! We had DJs, dancers, drag shows, and just all-round good vibes. Back then, drag wasn't as mainstream as it is today, but there was still an undeniable sense of family, creativity, and freedom within the scene. π
Iβd gone all out with a whole pink feather and crystal design! My sparkly pink ballerina shoes really stood out β you know I always choose style over comfort. I did ahem, suffer a minor mishap on the dancefloor, falling headfirst into a fabulous pile of pink feathers. Letβs just say, a pink flamingo with a broken wing is still beautiful in her own way! π But that's the magic of drag, right? Being unapologetically you, feather boa malfunctions and all.
So what else was going on in drag history this July? π Well, I discovered that RuPaul was just getting started with RuPaul's Drag Race β he had actually hosted the first-ever season in 2000. Imagine - Drag Race before Snatch Game! I swear, this girl's had a time machine! π
I had a little chinwag with some lovely ladies over at "Club Kidz," which was actually quite the social scene for drag artists and fashionistas back then. I found out about "Glitter Kids" from Brooklyn, who were creating the most stunning Drag Makeup looks β imagine eyeliner wings that were so high, they looked like they were taking flight! "Candy Darling" was on tour in Chicago! That name is iconic! Imagine the fierce, vibrant energy of New York City on full display in a whole other city!
One more important detailβ¦ the internet was still kind ofβ¦ new. Imagine, there was only one "blog" site I could even post my blog to, my loves! And honestly, it took like, forever for this thing to load. π But now, well, we've got Pink-Tutu.com! We're spreading drag history one sparkle at a time, lovelies! π I'm so happy I could share all of this with you, darlings.

Stay sparkly,
Emma xoxo π
