Hello lovelies! Emma here, your fabulous, time-traveling ballerina queen, ready to whisk you off on another fabulous voyage! This month, our pink tutu is twirling us all the way back to February 2011.
Buckle up your diamante belts, darlings, because this one is packed with drama!
You know how I adore a good vintage drag show, and finding a legendary one in the archives is truly a treat. This month, my research uncovered a real gem: "The Divine Miss M," a monthly show at the legendary Stonewall Inn in New York City. Itās hard to believe, darlings, that the Stonewall Inn wasnāt a designated landmark in 2011. Can you imagine?!
Now, letās talk fabulous fashion!
February 2011 was a whirlwind of incredible drag looks! Remember the iconic āBorn this Wayā era of Lady Gaga? Well, it was the peak of the glam-rock, futuristic look in drag, with tons of body glitter, neon colours, and, of course, the ever-present towering platform shoes.
My darlings, I simply couldnāt resist trying out a look inspired by the times. I mean, who can say no to a little holographic eyeshadow and a sparkling body suit? I did, however, stick to my favourite tutu, a delicate shade of blush pink.
And the shopping in 2011? Absolutely divine! This was the era of online shopping at its peak, with the rise of sites like ASOS and Boohoo. And letās not forget eBay, which was a goldmine for finding those unique vintage treasures that give a drag look that extra je ne sais quoi.
Of course, no time travel journey is complete without seeing what was happening in the wider world of drag! In February 2011, RuPaulās Drag Race Season 3 premiered, introducing us to queens like Raja, Manila Luzon, and Alexis Mateo! Can you believe it's been over a decade since they sashayed their way into our hearts?
Now, hereās a juicy piece of drag history: remember the iconic Drag Queen Story Hour which helps bring drag performances to families, helping children to embrace diversity and self-expression? This incredible program was launched just two months earlier in February 2011 in San Francisco. It's hard to imagine the impact that program has had since then - truly inspiring, don't you think?
Back in my own time in Derbyshire, England, February 2011 was all about cozying up at my favourite local drag nights at The Blue Bell. Nothing beats the community of drag lovers coming together to share laughs, fabulous costumes, and of course, good times.
One final piece of trivia for you darlings! The annual World Pride celebrations, in the beautiful city of Rome, were on the calendar for February 2011. I can only imagine the joy and acceptance present at these celebrations. The beauty of celebrating diversity and love is something we must never take for granted!
As always, my lovelies, itās time for me to jet back to my own time. I hope you enjoyed this blast from the past! Remember, every day is an opportunity to celebrate the beauty and artistry of drag. Embrace your individuality, channel your inner queen, and donāt be afraid to put on a pink tutu, even if you're just hanging out at home!

Until next time, stay fabulous!

And hereās the extra tea about February 2011, my lovelies!- The House of Xtravaganza was rocking the New York scene! These fierce, flamboyant queens helped define ballroom culture in 2011 with their breathtaking performances.
- Remember the āRuPaulās Drag Raceā girl group, The Pussycat Dolls? They released their second album āDoll Dominationā in February 2011. Who knew there was so much fabulous drag energy surrounding pop music?!
- And speaking of fabulously glamorous events, did you know the annual Metropolitan Museum of Artās Costume Institute Gala, more commonly known as the Met Gala, took place in 2011? The theme was āAlexander McQueen: Savage Beauty,ā showcasing the iconic fashion of the late designer.
This monthās blog wouldn't be complete without a sprinkle of behind-the-scenes gossip from my fabulous time-travel adventures.
- In February 2011, I accidentally spilled glitter on a vintage photograph of a legendary queen, Divine, and promptly fainted when a glittery voice exclaimed, āHoney, don't you dare touch my sequins!ā. Luckily, Divine found my excitement rather endearing and promised me a spot in her upcoming production of āPink Flamingosā - I told you my pink tutu magic worked wonders!
- And then thereās the story about when I managed to snag a front-row seat at Bianca Del Rio's first-ever drag show in NYC. That night was magical, full of laugh-out-loud humor and sass that would become Bianca's trademark. It's heartwarming knowing I saw her back in those early days!
Of course, as with all my time-travel blogs, my beloved readers will want to know how I managed to finance such a splendid adventure.
The secret to my time travel fund, my darlings? Itās a simple one - I get a rush of adrenaline (and some serious spending cash) by rocking out my amazing drag show routines. Every week I get to share my love for music, costumes, and storytelling on stage, and in turn, help bring a touch of pink sparkle into my community.
But my adventures aren't just about getting those killer dance moves on point! My love for drag spills over into every area of my life! When I'm not swirling through the eras, you'll find me diving into vintage clothing shops searching for that perfect feathered boa to top off my next show-stopping outfit, or meticulously creating new dance routines to show off in front of a cheering crowd.
And itās these incredible experiences, both on stage and off, that truly help my pink tutu come to life! I may be a time traveler, a fashionista, and a bit of a dancing queen, but first and foremost, Iām just Emma, your humble friend from Derbyshire, England.
Until our next time-travel journey, stay fabulous, keep your sparkle high, and remember⦠a pink tutu is a wonderful accessory for any occasion!
Love,
Emma xxx
