Pink-tutu.com - Post 1211: November 2020, and A Ballerina's Parisian Odyssey

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to Pink-tutu.com, where we celebrate all things fabulous and explore the glamorous, sparkly, and downright ridiculous history of drag! This month, our time machine's taking us to November 2020. Can you believe it? November 2020! A lifetime ago, wasn't it? So, darling, buckle up your tutus, grab your tiaras, and let's take a trip down memory lane.

Oh, my dears, November 2020. This month, my magical pink tutu whisked me away to Paris! Now, you know what a shocker that was. Imagine me, Emma, your favourite tutu-wearing, pink-obsessed drag queen, strutting through the streets of Paris, a beacon of tulle and glitter! But before we talk about the sights and smells of that glamorous city, let's rewind a bit.

What was the drag scene looking like globally in November 2020?

Well, my darlings, the world was still very much adjusting to the impact of a certain pandemic, so things were definitely different than they are now. Lots of queens were livestreaming, having virtual shows, and keeping their spirits high. The creativity really exploded during those lockdowns. Imagine being a drag queen, having all that time and creativity just bubbling up inside you, and not being able to show it off on stage? Honestly, my darlings, it would have driven me bonkers! But those brave queens found new ways to express themselves, and let's be honest, some of those livestreams were truly phenomenal. They brought joy and glitter right to everyone's living rooms, a beacon of light in the dark times!

But you know what I was doing in November 2020? Well, after a spectacular, sell-out show in Derby, I hopped into my enchanted pink tutu and off I went, zipping through the annals of time like a sequin-covered rocket, straight to the City of Lights!

Imagine me, a little English rose in a pink tutu, twirling amongst the Parisian streets. Now, Paris has always been a fashion hotbed. It's where haute couture and style are practically part of the air you breathe. And in 2020, the streets were filled with artists and performers just itching to create! Imagine my joy! As soon as I arrived, I popped in a drag show. I swear, these Parisian queens had a magic touch. There was an artfulness in their movement, a daring in their looks, and a kind of theatrical spirit that blew me away. And of course, my dears, their outfits were out of this world! Some of the most breathtaking costumes I've ever seen, from full-blown gothic looks to high-fashion cyberpunk and all the glitzy glory in between!

But of course, no visit to Paris would be complete without indulging in some retail therapy! I strolled through the shops of Saint Germain des Pres, a little pink princess in a pink tutu, and I couldn't resist buying myself some absolutely divine Parisian creations - a velvet choker for the neckline, a pearl-embellished headpiece, and a dazzling silver dress with the most glamorous feather accents!

My visit to Paris was more than just fashion, it was a symphony of sights, sounds, and feelings. From the quaint, historic cafes with their strong espresso and charming Parisian charm to the avant-garde art installations in the museums. I felt like I was stepping into a painting, a glamorous tableau filled with art, history, and of course, an incredible drag scene that was blooming despite the challenges. It reminded me that the spirit of drag is unstoppable, resilient, and as ever-changing and innovative as the world around it.

Now, dear readers, what was I wearing on my grand adventure? It would have been impossible for me to step into 2020 without a truly exquisite pink tutu, wouldn’t it?

This time, I wore a voluminous, multi-layered pink tutu with feathered edges, a little nod to the beautiful feathered looks I'd been seeing in the Parisian shows. To top it off, I paired the tutu with a hot pink bustier decorated with shimmering sequins, a sleek, black beret, and pink and black high-heeled boots that just shimmered. The outfit itself was like a burst of colour and elegance, but also bold enough to hold its own against the Paris skyline! It’s all about taking the traditional and pushing its limits, finding the right mix of style, elegance, and maybe a little bit of that playful edge!

You know what my mission is, don't you, darling? To get every single person in the world wearing a pink tutu! Why, it’s practically an instruction from the drag queen deities themselves, you see. It’s the future! Imagine a world filled with shimmering pink tutus! It’s a beautiful world, filled with joy, sparkle, and oh so much pink! It’s our future, my dear. Join me and let’s fill the world with tutus! And for those of you who've always wondered why I love pink tutus so much - well, it's the perfect combination of softness and boldness, darling. It's whimsical, dramatic, and just plain fabulous.

Before I go, I just want to remind you darlings that even though our journeys to the past may be glamorous, don’t forget the important things. Remember to be kind, support your local queens, and never stop dreaming of a future filled with pink tutus and glittering drag performances!

Keep your eyes peeled for the next edition of Pink-tutu.com! I'm off to gather some pink glitter and see what incredible journeys await us! And who knows? I might even pop into another drag show before my next post! Remember, you can keep up with my latest adventures by visiting the website - and by following my social media channels - where you’ll find photos, videos and behind-the-scenes glimpses from all my travels through drag history! Until then, stay sparkly, darling!

Love, Emma!

P.S. Did I mention my amazing collection of pink tutus? It's truly remarkable!
