Hello, my darlings! It's Emma, your favourite Derbyshire diva, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu! I'm back from a whirlwind trip through time, and let me tell you, my sequins are still shimmering from the magic I just experienced. Today, we're stepping back in time to September 2031. Grab your tea, a biscuit, and your most fabulous pink tutu - we're going on an adventure!
Now, I know you're all dying to know what my adventures were like, but first, a little gossip! You know I love me some drag news, and this month, the world was absolutely buzzing! In New York City, the Miss Universe Drag Queen Pageant had the entire scene in a tizz! Imagine, my dears, a universe-spanning celebration of all things drag!
Over in London, the Royal Albert Hall was hosting the legendary Drag Dynasty extravaganza, a five-night extravaganza of some of the most famous queens from every decade, each one shining brighter than a disco ball! Can you imagine the gowns? The feathers? Oh, the sheer fabulousness!
Of course, it wouldn't be a true Drag Queen Time Travel adventure without some new talent bursting onto the scene. The Berlin Drag Brunch introduced us to the spectacular "The Neon Queen", a Dutch queen known for their holographic looks, laser-light effects, and the most captivating story time I've ever seen!
But now, onto the juicy stuff. September 2031, my dears. Where shall we start? Well, I always say, start with the fashion, darling! Fashion, is the backbone of drag, isn't it?
In this time, I found a lot of queens rocking cyberpunk chic, sleek, and modern. The cyber-punk ballet aesthetic was everywhere: metallic colours, bold lines, geometric designs, everything gleaming under the neon lights of future fashion. And of course, tutus. It would not be Pink-Tutu without tutus, so this era saw an explosion of futuristic tutu designs. Weâre talking about luminescent, transparent tutus with fibre optic threads, holographic tulle that changes colour with every move, and tutus sculpted with 3D printed materials that shimmer and shine.
There's just something so elegant, yet strong about that ballet silhouette. They can be ethereal, ethereal, ethereal and strong and powerful, all in one! So, yes, of course I had to indulge in some seriously fantastic, neon tutu designs for this trip! Oh, how I love to be the life of the time travel party, wouldnât you agree?
This was the era of "Drag & Diversity". Queens from every corner of the globe were showcasing their culture, heritage, and artistic talents. There were drag troupes in Tokyo inspired by Kabuki theatre, drag kings performing in Paris with traditional French chansons, and Bollywood drag in Mumbai that would have you clapping along. I went to a stunning performance by a collective called "Rainbow Rhythm" in London. The energy was electric! I still haven't stopped thinking about the choreography. It was a glorious tapestry of the different dance styles of the world!
I know some of you will be rolling your eyes, thinking, âOh Emma, you're being too extravagant!â And I might be. But darling, life is a show! Letâs get it. Why live life without colour and with a little sparkle, right?
Okay, let's talk about my adventures. Now, I had some truly spectacular experiences. First, I found myself in a quaint village in Italy. There, they were having a Drag & Opera Festival. This incredible fusion of musical theatre, and Drag was something out of a dream! They'd combined elements of Italian opera with drag performances that would have made even the most staunch opera critics take a second look. The costumes were incredible. Oh my gosh! They're all designed with real peacock feathers, and the feathers had these shimmering designs and colours I'd never seen before.
Speaking of colours, while in Italy, I got to try a local dish, a dish they call The Pink Tulle Lasagne. (Now this wasn't just my amazing marketing at work!). This beautiful, colourful dish featured pink and cream coloured layers of pasta, a sweet ricotta sauce, and a topping of crispy breadcrumb confetti. I know some of you think I'm mad. A pink lasagna? But let me tell you, my dears, it was simply divine.
Now, to a much more modern part of the 21st century, if you can imagine. I went to a fantastic drag queen concert in Japan! Now, that's one experience I'll never forget. This concert, this was all futuristic beats, flashing lights, and a massive hologram of the leading drag queen, complete with a beautiful pink and rainbow sequined tutu.
Of course, this was not a true journey into the future without some, well, 'surprises'. I almost accidentally tripped up on an animated street lamp trying to get a snap of myself on my pink-tutu covered time-machine (did I tell you that my time machine is a pink tutu? And yes, of course, it's magic!). I mean, how do I even tell you? A street lamp, that moved, that sang a little disco tune!
Well, all that travelling certainly takes its toll. It wasnât long before I felt the need for a âPink Tulle Tea Partyâ in the 1970s. Now this era of disco and big hair has some of my favourite drag queen inspirations. My dears, I donât have to tell you what we were wearing in 1970s drag. Think sparkly disco gowns, huge platform heels and enough hairspray to put a space shuttle into orbit!
In that 70s time warp, I saw a fabulous drag queen who had the most amazing afro. Theyâd even styled the afro in a mini, sparkly tutu design!
And wouldnât you know it, the pink tutu seems to be all the rage! Every drag show I saw on my time travel jaunts this month had queens in some pink, sequined tutu fashion! So I hope it's making its mark on all of you. Maybe that's what itâll be like. Maybe all my time travels are destined to make every drag queen out there want to be in their very own Pink Tulle. Well, that would be a true fashion fairytale, donât you think?
I know I said âdonât ask me how my time machine works,â but sometimes I ask myself âwhy does my time machine work? â. To share the world of Drag and hopefully inspire a few pink tutus. If you get caught time traveling, be sure to share it on www.pink-tutu.com.
Remember, my lovelies, whether it's a futuristic disco show in Japan, an operatic drag performance in Italy, or a tea party in the disco era, drag is about being yourself. So let your inner diva shine! Go forth, have fun, and be the fabulous queens you were born to be! And of course, my darlings, don't forget your pink tutus. They are the key to unlocking your full potential! I'll see you in our next blog post, darlings!
Lots of love,
Emma xx
