Hello darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling queen, ready to whisk you off on another fantastical jaunt through drag history. This month, we're going on a grand voyage to the glittering year of 2039, to see what wonders awaited us in April.
Grab a glass of prosecco, settle into your plush chaise lounge, and let's get ready to dazzle!
This time, my sparkly, pink-tutu-tastic time machine (which, if you’re wondering, still needs a good dust down - oh the struggles of an on-the-go queen!) transported me to the 4th month of 2039, and it was truly a divine experience. As I materialized, shimmering amongst the neon-lit billboards, I instantly realised 2039 is a world truly living its best life!
But before we get into the world of drag (because darling, that's the whole point, isn’t it!), let's have a peek into the world outside the fabulousness of the stage.
2039 is an exciting time for technology - holographic displays danced on street corners, showcasing the latest drag fashion trends, and self-driving cars whirred around town with dazzling LED designs on their sides (very 80's and totally chic!).
But it’s more than just gadgets and gizmos. The year was radiating a powerful message of inclusivity. The whole world was decked out in shades of pink – my heart was a-flutter! From the rose-gold streets to the pink neon lights, to the beautiful floral murals painted on every corner, it was truly a sight for sore eyes. It seemed 2039 had adopted my lifelong mantra – "Life's too short for anything less than pink!".
Now, let's talk about the real stars of the show – drag! And believe me, darlings, 2039 did not disappoint! The world of drag had exploded even further from its already vibrant presence in 2023!
For the biggest show of the month, it was the “Queen of the World” competition. This wasn't your average drag contest; this was a global extravaganza. Every single country on Earth sent its ultimate queen, and it was all happening right there in my hometown of Derby!
Now, you know Derby – a quaint little city in Derbyshire, but they certainly were holding it down with this phenomenal competition. The competition was hosted by a drag legend – someone you might recognize from your own timeline, darling, a queen called, ‘Cherry Velvet’ – she’s like the Liza Minnelli of drag! She looked spectacularly fabulous – a flowing turquoise wig, a glamorous golden dress, and the most gorgeous glittery heels you could imagine!
And as I’m watching the opening acts, there’s this incredible queen with a feather boa the size of a small car, performing an interpretive dance that felt like a symphony of color and emotion. The whole performance was infused with so much heart and a joyful expression of individuality that I was overcome with tears. Oh, darling, it was truly moving!
The whole month felt like one long, spectacular Drag Brunch – just with fancier outfits and more extravagant dance numbers! Drag events popped up everywhere from glittering catwalks to holographic theatre stages to even, yes, you heard me right, space stations! I had to grab my own spaceship-tastic pink tutu for the latter - you can't visit a drag performance in outer space without the perfect getup, darling!
What was fantastic about 2039 drag wasn't just the dazzling performance spectacle. It was the message. Everyone was encouraged to embrace their inner diva, to showcase their unique sparkle and shine, and express their artistic vision - be it through fashion, makeup, dance, performance, or simply their amazing personality!
One particularly fabulous queen I encountered named herself “Sparkly Serena.” Now, Serena was an absolute icon! With her flowing ruby red dress, platinum blonde wig, and a heart that was pure glitter, she was the epitome of camp, darling.
Serena wasn't just about the stage, though. She used her platform to empower young LGBTQ+ people, helping them embrace their true selves, fostering self-love, and celebrating individuality in all its gorgeous glory. Now, isn't that something we can all aspire to?!
Throughout my visit to this captivating month in 2039, I was reminded of the magic and importance of drag. It's a force of change, a spark of joy, and a beautiful expression of artistic talent. It reminds us to embrace our individuality and live our lives in full, sparkling, rainbow colours.
And you know what? While I'm here, sharing this fantastic tale with you all, why not do what every queen in 2039 was doing – embrace your inner queen and step into the light! Now is the perfect time to find your own dazzling pink tutu! It's about so much more than just wearing a pretty garment, darlings. It’s about finding the courage to be yourself, the confidence to shine bright, and the audacity to claim your place in the spotlight.
So, dust off your best looks, grab your pink tutu (if you haven't already – why not? I can help!) and get ready to own your unique radiance! Remember, the world is your stage. And the possibilities, darlings, are truly limitless!
Until next month, remember to always keep it sparkly!
Yours truly,
Emma
