Hello darlings, it's your girl Emma, back again with another sizzling hot dose of drag history for your fabulous Friday! This month we're doing something a little different and diving deep into the future, darlings! Yup, my magical pink tutu whisked me right into the 21st of November 2043. And let me tell you, the drag scene has never been hotter!
Honestly, I must talk about my outfit! My darling, you wouldn't believe this gorgeous bubblegum pink tutu I stumbled upon in a vintage shop on Mars. (Did I mention I was also time travelling through the solar system?) It’s literally shimmering with tiny LED lights that glow with the colour of a thousand sunsets, it really is something special.
Okay, onto the main event: The Drag Scene in 2043. It’s positively spectacular, my dears! The energy is infectious, the creativity is absolutely off the charts and, let’s face it, these drag queens are serving serious looks! The futuristic fashion trends I saw on the streets of Tokyo, oh honey, they were breathtaking! Think bioluminescent fabric, shimmering sequins that actually shift colour as you move and… wait for it… tutus! Yup, you guessed it, tutus are making a big comeback, and frankly, who wouldn't want to dance the night away in a glorious tulle cloud?
Here’s what I learned from the 2043 Drag Scene:
The World’s Biggest Drag Competition: Apparently, this huge annual global competition, ‘The Drag Planet,’ is the pinnacle of the drag world! Imagine, a stage as big as a football field, hundreds of queens from every corner of the universe performing their hearts out for millions of viewers. I imagine the talent and the glitz is positively otherworldly!
Drag's Journey into Virtual Reality: There’s this amazing virtual drag show experience where people can choose to watch shows and interact with queens in 3D environments. I’m dying to try it!
Fashion Focus on Sustainability: What blew me away, lovelies, was how the entire drag community has adopted sustainable practices! Imagine glamorous looks made from recycled fabrics, recycled makeup, and even eco-friendly wigs. Truly a glorious change and so, so needed in these times!
A Rise in the Power of Inclusivity: Let’s just say 2043 embraces the power of diversity, baby! Drag isn’t just a performance, it’s a platform to celebrate difference and the power of acceptance! I’ve even heard of drag shows specifically catering to robots! Imagine that!
Drag Queens Take Over the Fashion World: From being inspirations for designers to starting their own successful fashion houses, 2043 is definitely the year drag fashion takes over the globe! Honestly, it's inspiring to see the power and influence drag has in the future.
Pink Tutus Rule The Day! Well, honey, this should be no surprise – I'm a firm believer in spreading the pink tutu gospel. What I witnessed in 2043 proves that tutus will never go out of style. I even saw a drag king performing with a pink tutu and… lemme tell you… the crowd went wild!
That said, I also went to a beautiful cabaret performance in New York featuring a fabulous group of drag queens who were paying tribute to the legendary Judy Garland. Talk about a classic!
Now, I must confess, there’s something truly special about witnessing the drag world of the future. It’s a celebration of creativity, individuality, and the sheer joy of performance. I left feeling empowered, inspired, and absolutely ready to put on my own pink tutu and shake things up back in the good ol' days!
