Hiya darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing time-travelling drag queen extraordinaire! It's the 5th of May, 2050, and as per usual, I'm bursting with excitement to share some drag-tastic historical gossip with you all.
Today, we're whisking ourselves off to a very special date indeed: 2050! 😱 It's practically the future, my darlings!
Now, I’ve got to confess, sometimes being in the future does make me feel like an old bat, like I’m just stuck in my own past, but I always manage to overcome it by finding new inspiration, seeing what’s new in fashion, and experiencing some pretty incredible shows.
Speaking of inspiration, you know what really gets me pumped? It's witnessing how drag has blossomed, transformed, and flourished over the decades! I always think back to my humble beginnings, rocking a pink tutu in the village hall, and think "Gosh, just look at where drag has gone!"
But first, let's talk tutus, darling! It's a time traveller’s code to wear pink, and naturally, I am absolutely obsessed with tutus! Today’s look is all about a voluminous pastel pink tutu, with cascading layers, complete with shimmering diamantés. My shimmering hot pink wig, and a fabulous, shimmery bodice featuring pink silk bows and frills, adds just a touch of “ooh la la!” There's nothing like a bit of sparkle and glamour when you’re time travelling, darling!
And wouldn't you know it, when I time-travelled into 2050, everyone I met was wearing tutus! I must say, my initial feeling was “finally!” – they look so wonderful and dramatic in almost every colour, not just my favourite! What could be better? I mean, this was my dream. I can finally spread the joy and fashion of my love for the pink tutu with all these glamorous future peeps! But also, my little drag heart had to accept that things have gone far, far beyond anything I’d ever envisioned!
You see, my lovely dears, 2050 has been completely and utterly consumed by drag. 💅 It's become such a huge part of pop culture, art, and fashion! There’s an art exhibition in London – the London capital, you know, my old stomping ground! – called “Tutus To Tomorrow: The Evolution Of Drag,” showcasing a 100-year chronological journey through drag, with fabulous costumes, historical accounts, and the chance to create a unique drag look. It’s an actual interactive exhibition with drag performances that take place live within the space! Talk about future-drag goals!
But that's just one part of the drag scene in 2050. Oh, there’s so much more to say! There are drag salons, with all the experts of make-up and style you can handle! And all that glam doesn’t even stop there – we are talking drag theatre, with plays about famous drag queens of history. Honestly, darlings, if you told my 18-year-old self, the little queen with her heart full of dreams for drag, what I was going to see and experience here, I would never have believed it!
Now, there's an exciting new trend in drag here – and it’s HUGE. You ready for this? Gender-bending holographic drag! ✨ Yes, darling, that’s what I said, holographic! And they look utterly incredible – almost otherworldly, with multi-coloured lasers and moving lights creating these beautiful projections! Oh, and get this - one show was completely themed around the colours of a rainbow! If my grandma had lived long enough, she’d have loved this – she always used to say "The more the merrier". This was the merriest! 🌈
So here we are, a true love for tutus, in the heart of 2050, witnessing a spectacle of the most fabulous drag imaginable! This experience has certainly given me a lot to think about! And even though things have changed so much, it’s comforting to see the essence of what makes drag so unique and powerful still very much at its heart – self-expression, creative artistry, and sheer joy of celebration. It’s like all those things have taken to the dance floor with a whole lot of glitz and glam and multiplied. 💖
So darlings, whether you’re a seasoned drag queen or a budding one, whether you’re in a tutu, sequins, or just your best-loved comfy clothes, never stop spreading your wings, celebrating diversity, and showing the world your fabulous self!
Stay fabulous, stay sparkly, and stay tuned for my next adventure in pink!
