Hiya darlings, and welcome back to the pinkest time travel blog on the interwebs, Pink-Tutu.com! Your favourite Derbyshire lass, Emma, here, and oh my goodness the time travel is truly getting exciting!
This month, darlings, I swirled right back into the future to the shimmering, glorious year of 2060. Oh honey, it's a fabulous future full of holographic gowns, self-lacing ballet shoes, and even flying cars (well, technically electric-powered air-vehicles with a pink-hued windshield!)
Now, hold your glitter cannons, darling, because today I'm spilling the tea on the world of drag, a dazzling display of high fashion, campness and sassy performances, but from a time waaay ahead of ours. Think 2060. Imagine that! We are talkin' galactic glam, folks.
But before I let you in on the shocking drag trends, let's get the usual out of the way. First off, darling, let's thank those incredible patrons of the arts (ahem, my fellow glitterholics), because you’re funding my pink-powered time-travelling tutu, and yes, even the pink eyeshadow! So thanks to my fabulous patrons who paid for the show last month, we were all high-kicking and twirling through the streets of Paris 1850! If you've not been to a drag show, honey, you're missing out. And if you’ve never travelled in time, I recommend investing in some quality pink tutus, the kind you get in Derbyshire! Cough, cough.
Now, onto 2060, and all the drag action. Firstly, let me tell you, honey, the costumes were a whole other level of fab. Gone were the traditional ball gowns, faux fur, and drag-ified *costumes that are so iconic. It's a bold new world with futuristic drag looks inspired by *quantum mechanics, bioluminescent life forms and astronomy. Think a mix of neon colour palettes with celestial embellishments. It's outer space meets disco ball in a symphony of pink, purple and silver, and my pink tutu really sparkled! I'm talking iridescent materials that glowed, pulsed, and shimmered in the stage lighting!
I mean, when a glow-in-the-dark, pink sequined space-age dress with strategically placed holographic sequins sashayed onto the stage and glowed with the pulse of a pink nebula, it almost sent my glitter-powered heart into a tumble. It was a vision. Oh the beauty.
What’s even more fabulous is the new focus on interactive performances that merge the worlds of drag and digital technology! Imagine this: one of the shows involved a Queen projected herself onto a giant holographic stage over a city. Amazing. She was singing, dancing, literally dancing amongst the clouds, in her giant glittery platform shoes!
It wasn't just the technology that was groundbreaking; the performances were about inclusion, a celebration of diverse identities and the beauty of human connection. Drag queens of all races, backgrounds, ages and sizes were taking the stage. The shows themselves felt more accessible and inclusive with dedicated performances at LGBTQIA+ charities and schools. Drag is everywhere. You can even take drag courses at schools! Well done, world!
But enough about performance trends, darling. I need to tell you about the shopping experience in 2060. Firstly, you won't believe the makeup! No more cake-y foundations, girls! It's all about personalized holographic cosmetics. You walk into a boutique, scan your face, and the AI custom-mixes your perfect holographic shadow, a rainbow of colours and textures that are absolutely breathtaking. Oh, and custom-made outfits? You bet your bottom dollar. You scan yourself into a holographic room, and it creates the most fabulous pink, glittery couture for your divine self! Talk about an experience, darling!
And darling, let's not forget about the hairstyles. There's nothing normal in this wonderfully strange future. Think gravity-defying wigs, holographic hair dye and organic, living braids with little bio-luminescent orchids that glow. I can't wait to get one of these beauties for myself back in 2023, it would really compliment my pink tutu!
And let me tell you about the music. OMG! It was so vibrant and energetic, and fused together with technology in the most surprising ways. Think holographic dancers, pink-toned projections of music that * danced around* the venue.
All in all, this future trip was amazing and I saw so much inspiration for future drag shows. This trip has been about the evolution of drag, and how this ever-changing art form can always surprise you, even when you think you’ve seen it all. If there's anything to be said about the future of drag, it's going to be pink and fabulous!
Stay tuned for my next adventure! (I hear 1960's London's calling...)
Love, Emma (Your pink tutu enthusiast and time travel guru)
