Christmas Ballet in 2007

Pink Tutu Post #116: A Twinkle in Time - 2007, a Christmas Ballet Odyssey!

Hello, darlings! It's Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood ballerina, back from another exhilarating trip through time! This week, I'm bringing you right back to 2007 - a year brimming with exciting Christmas ballet happenings!

Oh, how I adore the magic of Christmas ballet! It's a time for twirling under the twinkling lights of a beautifully decorated theatre, sharing the joy of classical dance with family and friends. And what better way to experience that than by slipping into a fluffy, oh-so-pink tutu, of course!

This year, my time travel took me straight to the heart of the holiday season - I'm talking frosty mornings, twinkling lights and a magical ballet experience at the Royal Opera House in London. Imagine my excitement when I stepped back in time and saw that The Nutcracker was being performed there.

The Nutcracker - A Timeless Christmas Ballet Classic

You all know The Nutcracker - it's basically a ballet Christmas tradition, like eating a mince pie and watching Christmas films. 2007 was no different. They were using the classic Petipa-Ivanov choreography which is absolutely breathtaking. This ballet always manages to sweep you away to a land of snowflakes and sugared plums. My heart just about burst with joy!

But The Nutcracker wasn't the only ballet making waves in 2007.

At the Birmingham Hippodrome, the Birmingham Royal Ballet performed their enchanting production of "Cinderella" – a dazzling showcase of shimmering costumes and exquisite dance routines, showcasing some truly spectacular dancing! The energy on stage was infectious, making every snowflake shimmer, and every twirl of Cinderella's pink slipper feel magical!

It's not all about the classics though, darlings!

2007 also brought a delightful blend of new and traditional, which is my favourite thing. I'm always keen on seeing new talent shine. And it's all part of the reason why I enjoy hopping about in a pink tutu in Derbyshire’s many street dance performances. You never know what kind of ballet fun awaits! Maybe some ballet hip-hop or a street dance interpretation of the Nutcracker. Now that would be truly enchanting!

A Touch of Ballet Fashion Magic

Speaking of enchantment, I couldn’t help but notice how incredible ballet fashion was in 2007. Think whimsical and romantic – like ballerinas adorned with shimmering fabrics, dazzling sequins, and exquisitely detailed tulle, flowing through the air. And speaking of tutus - darling, the designs were out of this world! Think full and fluffy tutus in every shade of pink imaginable – like candy floss clouds twirling across the stage!

You just knew every dancer was floating on a cloud of bliss in those gorgeous designs. It's really the whole essence of why I love pink tutus – they embody that dreamlike ballet aesthetic. It's like wearing a fairytale in a swirling confection of pink! And when the music swells, the magic begins.

A Year of Enchantment and the Enduring Charm of Ballet

2007 wasn’t just about dancing on stage though - it was a time for new talent to shine through and make an impression on the world of ballet. The world was witnessing the rise of new ballerinas like the incredible Alina Somova – a dancer whose grace and poise left audiences in awe!

This year’s festive season is almost upon us, darlings, and what better way to celebrate than with a delightful ballet show? As for my own journey, I’m hoping to dance my way through the world, one pink tutu and time-travel escapade at a time!

Until next time, stay twirling and dream big,

Emma x
