Hello my darlings, and welcome back to Pink-Tutu.com! It’s the most wonderful time of the year, isn't it? Christmas is upon us, and you know what that means – twinkling lights, festive cheer, and… ballet, of course! But with all this excitement, let’s take a trip down memory lane together, shall we? I’ve been revisiting some amazing Christmas ballet shows, and thought I'd share them with you. Today's blog post is a special one - it's about 2027! I just love a Christmas themed ballet - there's something so magical about those twinkling Christmas trees, snowflakes, and the ever-present spirit of Christmas in the dance. And in 2027, it seems, we were swooning over some truly stunning performances.
From London's West End to the glittering stages of New York, 2027 saw an incredible mix of traditional and innovative ballet spectacles that embraced the magic of Christmas. The London Coliseum played host to a production of 'The Nutcracker', which was not only utterly breathtaking visually ( think opulent Victorian décor and gorgeous costumes, and absolutely everyone in the audience wearing at least one pink, fluffy, tutu - my dream!). But this 'Nutcracker' also brought a touch of modernity. They modernised the set, making the world of the Sugar Plum Fairy almost surreal, but they were very clever because they didn't go too far - it felt incredibly exciting.
And oh, how could I forget the utterly sublime performance of The Royal Ballet's "The Snow Queen", starring the magnificent Natalia Osipova? It truly took me to another world, and it was like all those sparkling snowflake costumes had come straight out of my dream closet. There was a beautiful fluidity, graceful and captivating storytelling, and a wonderful balance of darkness and light that truly encapsulated the festive season.
Now, you know how much I adore exploring the world of ballet fashion, so let's take a peek into 2027. There was a fabulous resurgence in traditional tutu design that year, all the famous dancers wore breathtaking tutus, you know the ones with the wide layers of shimmering fabric and beautiful tiers - simply captivating. We also saw some striking and elegant innovations - like using metallics for the fabrics - the effect on stage was absolutely amazing. Oh, and remember when the tutu designers first brought out that new kind of netting, the one they made from eco-friendly plastic that had a pearlescent quality? Absolutely spectacular. It was all about bringing a unique sense of fantasy to each performance!
But 2027 wasn't all about grand ballet productions. Street performers and ballet crews were adding a vibrant and dynamic dimension to the world of ballet that year. Every Saturday I’d make sure to take a stroll down London's South Bank, it was always a joy to see amazingly talented ballet groups performing to contemporary music – hip-hop, R&B – the works! Some of those dances were incredible – just as thrilling as watching the Bolshoi. It proved that you don't need a grand theatre to create incredible art! It reminded me so much of when I first began my street performances back in the days before my little time-travelling trips. Oh, how much fun that was - just me, my bright pink tutu, and an audience gathered to watch. They'd never seen anything like it before! It was an amazing feeling to be a part of such an inventive and accessible form of art! That’s the spirit of ballet, making it available to everyone - I’m pretty sure I made one or two more tutu converts every weekend, don't you think?
Speaking of accessibility, I want to share with you all this wonderful Christmas ballet production by a charity group in Derby – it was magical! Imagine the pure joy of children experiencing their first ever Christmas ballet, dressed in tiny little red tutus (with a dash of pink!) and sparkling snowflake costumes - simply precious! This reminded me of all the excitement and joy that filled my own early ballet lessons at the Derbyshire Academy of Dance - those moments where you felt you were soaring, dancing in your tutu, feeling the magic of the dance… well, Christmas was a wonderful time to be young and full of life in Derbyshire, it made every rehearsal special.
Now, it is always so fun to learn about what others were wearing in those early 2020s, don’t you think? This reminds me of those magical and unforgettable nights when we were all captivated by the designs of some really fabulous new designers. Think flowing, ethereal gowns – they truly transformed ballet attire - they looked divine both on and off stage! It was like the designers really captured the grace of the ballet and the essence of those Christmas performances in every elegant, dramatic detail. Some even incorporated shimmering fabrics, sequins, and sparkly embellishments into the ballet attire – simply glamorous! I could never resist a sequin or a glittering detail - and believe me, there were more than enough in 2027, just to satisfy the fussiest of ballerinas - trust me, I saw it all! The dancers looked utterly radiant in their exquisite balletwear!
2027 truly was an amazing year for Christmas ballet. The traditional shows were beautiful, and there were some wonderfully modern, bold performances on street stages and at festivals around the world. Christmas ballet – just magical and festive – it always brings me a little extra Christmas cheer!
Now, if you want a sprinkle of Christmas cheer right now, get out that tutu and have a dance to some Christmas tunes! Christmas is truly the best time of year - time for family, laughter and spreading a bit of Christmas sparkle, right?! So, what’s your favourite ballet for the festive season, darling? Don’t forget, I want to see your ballet fashion picks for this Christmas. Come back soon, for another trip down memory lane, as we take a peek at what Christmas Ballet looked like, say in...2021! Until then, enjoy the magical holiday season, and make sure to sparkle brilliantly, darling!
Lots of love and twinkling Christmas wishes,
Emma xx
