Hello my darlings! Emma here, from the heart of Derbyshire, where the wind whips through the frosted fields and Christmas lights sparkle in every window. But for me, the most magical sparkle comes from the twirling tutus of the season, and oh my dears, 2036 is a year for truly breathtaking Christmas ballets!
You all know how I love a good trip through the time machine. This month, I popped into the year 2036, a mere 14 years from now, to get a glimpse of what Christmas ballet will be like in the not-too-distant future! And let me tell you, the future is pink, glittery, and totally captivating.
My street performances in 2036 were an absolute riot! Imagine, a neon-lit cityscape pulsating with futuristic energy, a dazzling array of street performers, and me, twirling in my pink tulle, bringing a touch of classic elegance to this vibrant world. It was electric! I was particularly fascinated by the way virtual reality technology had transformed dance and street performance. I witnessed a group of dancers perform a mesmerizing street ballet on a projected cityscape - they moved like ethereal spirits weaving their way through an interactive 3D world.
Anyway, let's get back to the ballet of the season, shall we? The major dance companies of 2036 were showcasing innovative productions that took Christmas ballet to a whole new level. In New York, the prestigious New York City Ballet debuted their new take on "The Nutcracker," which featured breathtaking holographic scenery, interactive audience experiences, and an astounding display of costumes. Can you even imagine the shimmering fabrications they used?! The pink, the sparkle, it would have blown my little ballet socks off!
Speaking of stunning costumes, I absolutely fell head-over-heels for the design choices. The London Royal Ballet presented a vibrant reimagining of "The Snow Queen," which included ethereal tulle designs that billowed like a winter snowfall. They had a gorgeous mix of contemporary and classic elements with some innovative touches in the footwear department – a special metallic glitter ballet shoe. Oh my dears, you have got to see the pics - just the best of all possible worlds in dance, elegance and tech!
As well as classic re-imaginings, the year 2036 saw the premiere of numerous new ballets. I witnessed the London based Ballet Theatre performing "Winter's Dream," a new work inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's "The Snow Queen." With a modern ballet approach, "Winter's Dream" offered breathtaking contemporary choreography with dramatic flourishes that embraced the story with passion. This ballet showcased an absolutely magical wardrobe – ethereal fabrics, shimmering gowns that flowed as easily as snowflakes falling. It was enchanting!
Now, I wouldn't be true to myself if I didn't tell you about some of the new Christmas-inspired trends in fashion, a true celebration of ballet beauty, beyond the stage, of course. There was an explosion of luxurious silk gowns, velvet designs, and tulle adorned everything. Sparkling gowns, perfect for a glamorous evening at the opera, were everywhere! But my favourites were definitely the tulle creations; those luxurious flowing pieces, soft and feathery, they whispered, "Let's go for a twirl!" - and twirl, I did!
I even bought a spectacular red tulle outfit ( I'm a sucker for a little color sometimes!) that I proudly sported on New Year's Eve. It made me feel like the star of my own ballet. The fabric floated beautifully, and I was able to move with ease, making me feel like a proper ballet princess. Just divine, darling!
And what would be a ballet blogger’s visit to 2036 without a glimpse into the world of ballet shoes, right? Oh darling, they’ve just got so darn creative! They are blending cutting edge technology with classic design in a fantastic fashion explosion! I saw everything from metallics, sparkly, light-up, even a shoe with built-in bluetooth technology so dancers could receive instructions while in a performance. Mind you, my dear, this was more in the world of street performance. And of course, the beautiful traditional pointe shoes remain a timeless masterpiece in the world of ballet!
Now, I must confess that although it was wonderful to step into a future of technologically advanced dance experiences and breathtaking costume creations, nothing quite beats the magical feeling of a traditional Christmas ballet. There’s something utterly enchanting about the warm, nostalgic atmosphere of a classic theatre, the glow of the stage lights, the rustling of velvet seats, and of course, those perfectly elegant ballerina costumes – think exquisite lace, sparkling sequins, and flowing tulle, all lovingly fashioned to bring magic to life.
So this Christmas, my darlings, embrace the magic of ballet. Get wrapped up in the glitz, the glamour, the elegance of ballet. Treat yourselves to a Christmas show. But remember - this is about more than just the ballets. Let's bring that sparkle and magic into our everyday lives, through our fashion, through our dance, through the beauty of sharing a beautiful and unique dance experience with family and friends.
This Christmas, dare to twirl in a pink tutu! After all, every day is a stage waiting for a fabulous performance!

Emma xx
