Hello darlings! Emma here, your very own pink tutu wearing guide to all things sparkly and twirly, back with another post on the oh-so-fabulous history of Christmas ballet! Today, we're whisking ourselves back to the year 2039. Honestly, darling, the 2030s are the absolute peak of fashion! Imagine, your dear Emma strutting the streets of London in a hot pink feather boa with matching glittery, lace-up, platform boots... And a fabulous tutu, of course. Itās truly divine!
Now, imagine Christmas in 2039, a magical world of twinkly lights, twinkling snow (thank goodness for those innovative, climate-friendly Christmas snow machines!), and some absolutely iconic Christmas ballets!
Firstly, darling, this year is The Royal Opera House's 150th birthday, and oh, how they are celebrating in style! Theyāve just commissioned The Nutcracker 3D, an Immersive Ballet Experience. Imagine! You walk into the theatre, and boom, you are in the magical Land of Sweets! There are sugared plums floating around your head and snow swirling around your feet! Honestly, itās the closest you can get to being in The Nutcracker yourself! They've even got interactive costumes you can wear, a fabulous opportunity to really immerse yourself in the show. Iām absolutely going to book tickets for that, my darlings, a Christmas treat for the senses, absolutely divine!
The Bolshoi Theatre, however, has been quite daring for Christmas. They have chosen to put on "The Story of the Snow Queen," an adaptation by the famous Ballet Fusion Company, The Urban Ballerinas. Now, imagine all the street moves of hip hop, break dancing, with a stunning ballet foundation, itās a completely different take on the Snow Queen, and one of their dancers has designed an entirely new costume thatās utterly spectacular, inspired by ice crystals with LEDs embedded! The future of ballet fashion, darling, and I must have that tutu for my collection!
Over in New York, itās all about "The Winter Garden." Itās been created by the rising star of the ballet world, the incredible Miss. Alice Walker and itās a modern fairytale, based on the legend of Winterās Daughter, whoās lost her magic power and needs to find it by following a pathway through her memories. Imagine a ballerina following her memory-journey, wearing different tutus for every stage, from delicate chiffon, to bold velvet, a spectacular showcase of fashion thatās simply fabulous! And, darling, the choreography is absolutely breathtaking - so elegant, itās truly poetic!
And while Iām dreaming of new tutus and beautiful ballet, I've also discovered some exciting developments in street ballet. It's totally caught on, with flash mobs appearing everywhere, all over London. Even in Derbyshire, where Iām from! I absolutely love seeing these little flashes of magic on the streets! People have finally discovered the joy of ballet in any setting, and you can find gorgeous pink tutus everywhere - from vintage shops to online markets.
And speaking of vintage shops, you won't believe the vintage pink tutus Iāve been finding in these fabulous shops! My collection is bursting, darling, but a girl can never have enough pink tutus. Thereās this little Etsy store in Derbyshire called āTwirling Treasuresā that only sells pink tutus ā honestly, itās heaven!
You simply have to dress the part, darling, whether itās a classic tutu, a tutu skirt, or a Tutu dress. Get that sparkle in your eye! That twirl in your step!
There's something so magical about wearing a tutu, darling! It makes you feel beautiful and confident. It makes you feel like you can achieve anything! Just look at the young girls I teach in my Derbyshire Ballet Academy! Their eyes light up when they put on a tutu - they feel like princesses, like fairies, and they believe they can fly! And really, why canāt we all feel like that? Why can't we all live a life that's magical and beautiful? Why not, darling?
The world needs more sparkle and twirls! Let's all get together this Christmas, throw on a pink tutu and make the world a little more magical, one pirouette at a time!
Merry Christmas, darlings!
With love and lots of twirls,
Emma š©°āØ
