Hey lovely readers! It’s Emma, your pink-tutu-clad guide to all things Christmas ballet! This is my 154th blog post and boy oh boy, have I got a treat for you today. Buckle up, darlings, because we're diving headfirst into the magical world of Christmas ballet in the year 2045!
I've been itching to get to this one! The world of Christmas ballet is so exciting! You wouldn't believe what’s going on, you truly wouldn’t, so many new ideas! So many beautiful costumes! You know what I’m talking about, dear readers, this Christmas season we've had a truly amazing year in Christmas ballet.
There's always something to be excited about in the ballet world and right now, well, things are particularly amazing. The current buzz, for those in the know, is about the new augmented reality Christmas ballet performances at The Royal Opera House. They are absolutely phenomenal. They’ve gone for a retro 1920s Christmas theme and they are absolutely fantastic!
Before I tell you about that show, I've got a few more things I've got to say. Where shall we start! Let’s talk ballet fashion! Honestly, how beautiful have the designs been this Christmas season! Think of it! A ballet in every colour with dazzling light show, fabulous shoes with sparkly buckles. The look was quite spectacular!
If you’ve seen any of the current street performances and I have to tell you, they’ve had some stunning dancewear too. I actually picked up the most fantastic new dance-themed earrings in Selfridges last week. I am going to wear them for our performance in London, maybe next to that cute fluffy pink ballet dress, they'll make the perfect combination!
Oh my gosh! It's like a kaleidoscope! How about we go back to that Christmas ballet show I told you about… The Royal Opera House! Absolutely stunning, it was in December! The augmented reality really created a whole new dimension, especially during the snowflakes falling, which turned out to be the absolute showstopper of the production. I mean who would have thought that technology would bring more depth and magic to a traditional Christmas Ballet? Honestly, who’d have thought!
The new year is a magical time to be in London, even in Derbyshire. I love how all of the shows are on and the Christmas festivities make it so special. There’s always something going on in the city! I've seen some interesting trends with street ballet lately, not only in London, but right across England! There's so much street style going around. You wouldn't believe the costumes - I was shocked! From elaborate street performers to the new modern ballet moves and routines with some serious hip-hop influenced choreography in some of the shows, and not only that - think shimmering sequins on a winter's night, gorgeous shimmering silks that look great at this time of year and there is even a growing trend to the beautiful classic tutus. I think it was a new trend with some amazing outfits which I am absolutely loving!
Let's get back to my Christmas time travel experience, if we can get back on topic for a moment! So, to travel through time in 2045 I've got a brilliant new secret – I don’t just do ballet for a living, I make some pretty fantastic street dance routines. If you’re one of my fans you will know I get to fund my travel through time via these incredible performances I get to do!
Here in Derbyshire I think I’m one of the top 10 dance performers on the street performance circuit. The money I get for my street performances helps to pay for my trips to London! And I do need a few trips because of the shows I like to see! If I'm lucky enough to be in the audience at a new play or even an exhibition it gets posted to my pink-tutu.com blog. But when I’m in the audience at these brilliant shows it really makes it worth the journey. So there you have it.
It's like a little secret society for all my readers, but the street shows make it all possible for me, because after all I need that beautiful pink dress! All the beautiful tutu wear makes my day! What would I do without the tutu in my life. Well, let’s get back to London… the centre of the ballet world and our very own capital! And in the year 2045 London, for Christmas, just sparkles like you’ve never seen! I even heard of some of my new colleagues even getting the London tube decorated! Apparently this was in a huge promotion that went on during December. Imagine! My new ballet friends took a whole street, yes, a whole street to show off a whole Christmas-themed street show it was quite a big event in the area they performed it in, they were all very well-known in their field so a huge turnout went to see their performances.
I even heard that a whole group of them started doing street performances on a Wednesday during December! A little odd, that Wednesday event seemed to have gone quite well from what I’ve been told… I don't have a huge collection of pink tutu's at the moment (because my latest budget has been slashed since buying all those new shoes) I think I could have even got tickets if I’d got to it in time! But I am planning on going for all those amazing ballet-themed dance outfits that everyone’s wearing this year. So, I am quite excited to get to these amazing street shows during December to get myself all wrapped up and dressed! You should definitely put December in your diary, it is going to be a huge event! I hope we get a chance to see them there. It should be really interesting.
There are always shows around to catch, from dance performances, a little light street ballet on a Wednesday, new fashion shows and not forgetting a ballet play or even an opera every now and again to really enjoy it all! And the shows in 2045 were outstanding! If I could recommend just a couple for this year, I really recommend checking out The Christmas Story Ballet – I got to watch this live in 2045, the dance and storyline were beautiful - there were some really moving performances that made me cry. And let’s not forget a special edition to The Nutcracker, set to a classical piece called Tchaikovsky! The dance choreography was outstanding, it had it all, it had modern dance, ballroom, the ballet! It even had contemporary street dance styles, which were truly out of this world, the outfits and make-up were so beautiful too. You need to watch the choreography at least once. I think my readers have to experience this new style so be sure to check it out!
Oh and while I'm in a Christmas ballet mode, did I mention the fantastic shops I found? We’ve had to come so far from when the Victorians started a tradition for Christmas Ballet, back then people used to have only a few options and all you would find in department stores was Victorian era dancewear. Not even tutu’s were fashionable in that era! You wouldn’t have believed it in 2045, it’s all changed, how amazing is that! We have gone so far, fashion really has been taken to another level because I found a tutu, it’s in my shopping basket at the moment! What a time to be alive.
That was a tough shopping day! Let’s get this clear: finding a good Christmas tutu has become quite hard. All these shops are stocked with fabulous colours! Do you like red and silver, gold and silver, light blue and white, purple, pink or maybe orange with black. But how can I pick, it’s really tough! Especially if it's not pink or red! What will I do, my favourite colours for a Christmas Tutu! And then I looked across the aisle and noticed some fantastic designs for new shoes too! Just imagine new fashionable shoe collections for dancers everywhere, you just have to check out the amazing shoe shops in the shops on Oxford Street, the selection will make you want to cry, it’s truly an amazing world! And to make it even better, most of these designers do a beautiful design, a small little touch of something magical to get the most special customers – dancers who are lucky enough to purchase those shoes that will just get them noticed around London as they wear these dazzling new ballet designs, in their bright pink ballet dress of course, with the dazzling, glittery makeup and amazing hairstyles, because after all who would think of doing street performances if it doesn't make an impression with the public? Oh and one final point. Be careful where you do this street dancing. The traffic around London can be quite heavy, and some traffic junctions aren’t ideal spots to take part in this dancing fad… even I have learned a few things the hard way, because the truth is, everyone is at it. Street dancing! The people, the young girls on TikTok all of the TikTok users all over London! My personal favourite place to dance is right there on London Bridge. They have just redesigned it in the centre of the city. What an experience. Oh what an amazing experience to perform there! Not only for myself, for everyone on a Tuesday afternoon, they all just go for it. From the top, on top of London Bridge they come up and dance to their heart's content and of course, if they’re good enough, a video gets shared. And how well I have to dance, right? If I want to be good enough! Because I want to keep that travel back in time so that I can bring you those lovely reviews. It really does take me to new worlds. Especially that little shopping experience we all enjoy! Who wouldn't love a new, beautiful pink, sparkly tutu, maybe a sparkly shoes and not forgetting the gorgeous make-up! My god, the experience is really so exciting.
I’ve been in all of those fabulous department stores: Harvey Nichols, Harrods and even Fortnum and Mason. You've just got to check these places out - if you go this time of year just expect huge queues! If you go in December there is an awful lot going on at those Christmas Markets that are on Oxford Street and it makes shopping so much more festive, even at all these amazing department stores because every day they have special street ballet shows, not every single day mind you, but some shows. It was such an experience! A big surprise to me, when I first saw a couple of the performances at the markets I went to see all of the wonderful, and quite bizarre Christmas displays, such a fun treat and some incredible and stunning shops too. It made me realize just how big an influence the street dancing shows are now around the world. Just take a moment, to stop, sit and reflect and you’ll understand! They even do a really great charity day that starts up at around midday with the show being on until 3:30pm and every year it's completely different. They’ve gone back to the original shows for inspiration. You know what they call that, those Victorian era shows and those wonderful designs! You’ve probably guessed by now, those gorgeous Ballet dresses with some really long beautiful skirts and that Victorian era lace on them… A lovely pink sparkly Christmas dress from 1875, in a street dancing performance, they get that perfect tutu, or maybe not quite perfect, it’s just like the ones you see at those vintage Christmas shows from that era and maybe they’re just the best tutu designs in the world for everyone. All I know is, if it isn’t pink, sparkly, and very glitzy, then it probably doesn’t fit the modern Christmas street dance.
Let’s just wrap things up. That was a crazy 2045 Christmas Ballet. With the amazing ballet shows to check out in the heart of London and those great ballet and dancing fashion outlets all over the world, in shops like Harvey Nichols, Fortnum and Mason or Harrods to all the dance shops and clothing designers in Derby, you just can't get better, not when we all want to show off in that perfect, pink sparkly tutu! This is my favorite season and if I don’t manage to make another time jump, my pink tutu will be the perfect festive style for next year too.
Until next time dear readers, I'll be keeping those tutus going in 2046! I can't wait to get my new wardrobe for the Christmas season. I love all the colors and designs I've already seen and even got some great ideas for my dance shows from what I’ve seen. The next show will be quite different, and quite special. I have a secret up my sleeve – all in good time. I will have a full review on the blog before my first show and my big dance competition with those famous stars at London Bridge in December… but that's all a secret until I’ve had a chance to try it all out on a Wednesday show before Christmas in Derbyshire! What will happen this year? It should be something special.
Catch ya' next time, and remember, always stay positive, always try and be as sparkly as a Christmas tree! You really have got to keep those beautiful tutus out there, they will just add more sparkle to your Christmas. I really hope you can all be here in the festive mood, that I can’t wait to see the world’s greatest tutus and ballet fashions that get to hit London’s high street, at the famous Christmas Markets! Oh! and you just have to check out the London markets! Every year, you just can't resist those traditional, beautiful designs. Be back next time for my show diary, that takes us to Christmas in 2045, because Christmas comes to all in different ways, let’s make those Christmas moments truly special!
That’s it for this time and remember my beautiful tutu family: Keep calm, dance on and I can’t wait to catch you at my shows on London Bridge every Wednesday before Christmas - I’ve got a whole set of those really funky sparkly pink ballet dresses to wear all through December, we are sure to stand out there! And I will, without fail, do an update next week to tell you all about the new show and any other amazing happenings from the world of Christmas Ballet, until then remember my beautiful Tutu-loving friends, keep on shining!
