Hey Tutu Lovers! Welcome back to another fabulous journey through time with your favourite pink-tutu-wearing ballerina blogger, Emma! September is here, and with the crisp autumn air swirling around us, itās the perfect time to think about all things ballet! Today weāre time-travelling to 9th September 1670. Buckle up, darling, we're about to leap into history!
Before we take off, I want to show you the gorgeous new pink tutu I snagged at a vintage fashion show last weekend. The sheer tulle is the softest pink you've ever seen, and the delicate floral embroidery? Divine! It even has these beautiful feather boas for a touch of glamour. My dancing in this tutu is just magical! Oh, and speaking of magical, Magic Meg is pawing the ground, ready to carry me back in time!
Paris: Where It All Began
This month weāre landing in Paris. 1670! The King's theatre - The AcadĆ©mie Royale de Musique ā was buzzing with ballet performances. The French had embraced the elegant world of dance, and Jean-Baptiste Lully's company was absolutely phenomenal! It's a completely different style from the modern ballet we know and love today. They were into dramatic grand ballets with impressive costumes, storytelling and dazzling dancing. Can you imagine seeing that? It must have been incredible. Imagine, the thrill of stepping into that Paris theatre, surrounded by the beautiful costumes and elaborate sets. Just imagine!
Ballet History at My Fingertips!
As always, I grabbed a few treasures from this period! My favourite is this exquisite embroidered ballet costume. The rich fabrics, the exquisite details - I canāt believe how timeless the design is! Just goes to show, fashion repeats itself! And who doesn't love a classic?
You know, I always tell you, we have ballet to thank for so many beautiful fashions, like the graceful ballet slipper which was actually inspired by ballet shoes! That tiny detail brings the entire outfit together for any ballet dancer, a nod to our lovely historical beginnings. The influence is all over fashion, isn't it? I swear I even spotted a tutu design in my new vintage boutique in the village!
Time for Some Fun
You know, I simply have to share a story about the King's Academy: there was a rumor they only let ballerinas perform at the ballet. Can you believe it?! Well, guess who got up and danced at the men's āComĆ©die FranƧaiseā company in 1671, and proved them wrong? The iconic Madame La Fontaine. A true pioneer of female talent! What a bold move, isn't it? And so, ladies, never underestimate your strength and dedication! Let's be like Madame Fontaine!
