Pink Tutu Travels: A Journey Back to 1700! (Blog Post #471)

Hey darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballerina, back with another incredible adventure from the archives of www.pink-tutu.com!

This month, I’m taking you back to the glorious year 1700, a time of powdered wigs, elaborate costumes, and... drumroll please... the birth of ballet as we know it! That's right, lovelies, our favourite art form was still taking its first tentative steps, and let me tell you, the story's even more exciting than a grand jeté across the stage.

So grab your favourite shade of pink lipstick, a cup of tea (Earl Grey, of course, to fit the era), and let's hop on the back of Magic Meg, my beautiful pink-sparkling Shire with golden hooves and a mane like spun sugar, and travel through time!

The Fashion Forward First Step of Ballet

In the year 1700, Louis XIV, the Sun King, was ruling France with a flourish (literally, everything was ridiculously flamboyant!), and he was utterly captivated by dance. So, he decided to gather all the finest dancers from all over Europe, and poof! The French Academy of Dance was born, a prestigious establishment dedicated to nurturing the art of ballet.

Now, you know I have a soft spot for anything sparkly and feminine, and let me tell you, 1700 was a total fashion feast! Forget the skimpy leotards and tight-fitting tights of today. Back then, dancers wore lavish, floor-length gowns, their heads crowned with glittering jewels, their movements graceful and flowing, almost like the swirls of a grand ballgown. They were a sight to behold, absolutely dripping in artistry and elegance!

A Little Story of the Time, With a Pink Twist

Now, this is where things get truly fascinating. My latest find from my time travels - tucked away safely in my leather rucksack - is a beautiful silk fan from this era. It’s a shade of pink so delicate, so blushing, that it's like the faint hue of a sunrise over a Parisian garden.

I can just imagine it - a young woman with bright, sparkling eyes and a twinkle of mischief, perhaps even a hint of pink blush on her cheeks, gracefully pirouetting, her pink fan fluttering gently in her hand, the only colour contrasting with the lavish elegance of her dress. This image, darlings, takes my breath away.

What's On in the World of Ballet in 1700?

In 1700, it wasn’t all about ballet academies, my darlings. The art was also flourishing in theatres. Plays would include stunning ballets as part of their entertainment, and these dances were starting to become much more intricate and even a little bit narrative-driven.

You can't talk about ballet in 1700 without mentioning the Italian innovator, Francesco da Sala, who brought some incredible innovations to the art form. It’s thanks to him that we see dancers using jumps and spins that would be impossible in the heavy costumes of earlier times! This was a new dawn for the art, where it finally got its legs (no pun intended!) and started exploring its possibilities.

Time Travel Tips & My Pink Tutu Choice

So, if you’re planning a time-travelling ballet adventure (I highly recommend it!), make sure to pack a pink fan to blend in with the elegance of the era, and always keep a lookout for that unique shade of pink. You’ll find that the 1700s are overflowing with it!

As for me, I'm rocking my pink tulle tutu with its generous, airy layers - perfect for showcasing all those beautiful dance moves from 1700! But, I have added a modern twist, adding a little lace, some delicate pink embroidery, and a sprinkle of shimmering pink sequins for a touch of modern whimsy.

I know what you’re thinking - "Emma, wouldn’t a pink dress be more in keeping with the period?" Well, my dears, I say pink is pink, no matter what the century. We’re all about spreading pink love and encouraging everyone to dance in their own special style.

Don't forget, my lovelies, you can always follow my pink-tutu travels and join our amazing community at www.pink-tutu.com. And don't be shy to share your own pink-tutu adventures with us - we love hearing from our followers!

Until next time, remember to twirl with joy and embrace your inner pink princess!
