Post #671: Dancing Through the Centuries with Emma and Magic Meg - 11th November, 1716

Hello my darlings! It's Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, ready to take you on another dazzling trip through the fascinating world of ballet history. This month, Magic Meg and I have galloped back to the 11th of November, 1716 - a date that holds some very interesting historical happenings in the world of ballet, just waiting to be explored. Buckle up, darlings, because we're going to have a simply splendid time!

From Derbyshire to 1716

Magic Meg, my beautiful pink shimmering Shire with her golden hooves, was a little excited for this trip, to be honest! She can usually sense when I'm going to a particularly special time period. Perhaps it was the little whisper of 18th-century extravagance in the air that gave her a bit of extra pep in her step. I packed my trusty leather rucksack - stuffed full of tulle, a feather boa, and a very tempting antique lace fan - ready to collect some fascinating treasures from the period. You know how I love finding those little snippets of forgotten history that show just how wonderfully creative and bold ballet has always been!

The Big Show - Opera and Ballet in Paris

Let's get down to business! 11th November 1716 found us in the dazzling, decadent world of Parisian opera. Can you imagine? Glitz, glamour, music, dance, and fashion all combined in a spectacular display! The big draw, though, was something called "The Triumph of the Empress Themis", a musical work filled with drama, spectacle, and of course, ballet! I always love how much ballet blended with other forms of entertainment in these early years.

The Dancing Stars of 1716

Just as I enjoy seeing the hottest names in dance today, I was eager to discover the stars of 1716. Now, in Paris at this time, there was a rather charming fellow by the name of Claude-François Desmoulins, who, like myself, held a love for ballet in his heart. He was even known to put together ballet "fêtes" – little shows and celebrations, you know – that were a sensation. I would absolutely love to have seen one! Just picture it – a little party thrown together just to enjoy a dance – a perfect embodiment of our pink tutu spirit!

Discovering Ballet's Beauty - Everywhere and Everytime

As we explore through time, I think one thing becomes beautifully clear: ballet is everywhere and it is a form of art that has always been beloved. We have seen this passion play out in different times and different places, yet it remains at its heart - a joyous, inspiring and incredibly creative art form! That, darlings, is a true testament to the wonder and power of ballet.

Fashion of the Time - The Enchantment of Pink

Did I tell you about the beautiful costumes I saw during my visit? While they were much different from our modern tutus, there was still a captivating charm. The colours were vibrant, the fabrics luxurious, and the design - so creative! Just imagining the exquisite ballet gowns adorned with beautiful jewels and silk bows! And you know what? Some of those colours actually really do echo our pink tutu style, too!

The Pink Tutu Power

The beauty of it is, time travel has made me see that dance and the love of pink are constant throughout the centuries! Whether it's a pink shawl, a delicate pink ballet slipper, or a full-length pink satin gown, it just seems like a colour that embodies the passion and artistry that ballet has to offer. As you all know, I aim to bring this message into the modern day - one pink tutu at a time!

Your Ballet Journey Begins Here

So, my dear ballet-loving friends, don't you think it is magical to know that your passion, your joy in seeing the grace and artistry of ballet is something that has been embraced by countless souls across time? Let this journey inspire you, my loves, and if you ever get a chance to see a show or take a class, I urge you to do so! And don't forget to wear pink! The world is a little brighter, a little more magical, when you dance in a pink tutu!

See you all next month, for another fabulous ballet time travel adventure!

With love, Emma and Magic Meg
