Hello darlings! Welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com, your one-stop shop for all things pink, fluffy, and time-traveling! It’s your girl Emma here, and this month, Magic Meg and I are taking a trip back to the 18th century, specifically to 1st January 1745! Buckle up, loves, because it’s a tutu-tastic ride!
I always start my time travel adventures with a spot of pre-journey ballet practice. After all, staying limber and perfecting my pirouettes are essential for gracefully leaping through time. You never know when you might need to perform a spontaneous pas de deux with a historical figure! This time, I focused on some classic 18th-century ballet movements - just think elegant bows and flowing lines!
Now, with my mind focused and my pink tutu perfectly pleated, it’s time to saddle up with Magic Meg. My darling Meg, as you know, is a dazzling pink-sparkling Shire horse, a truly majestic creature with golden hooves and a flowing white mane and tail. She practically gleams under the moonlight and her spirit sparkles brighter than any diamond! She always carries me with utmost grace and speed.
Our journey through time began as the first light of dawn peeked over the Derbyshire hills. I waved goodbye to the quaint village, my leather rucksack securely strapped on my back ready to collect some enchanting memories and maybe some exquisite lace trimmings to adorn my future creations! This rucksack holds more than just stories and treasures though – it holds the magic that makes my travels possible. Every time I travel through time, I collect some new stories and some of the fabric of that era, from a scrap of vintage ballet tutu to a feather from an opulent feathered headdress!
Once we arrived in 1745, we parked ourselves near the quaint and busy cobbled streets of London. Oh, the vibrant bustle! Everywhere you looked, elegant carriages trundled by, ladies and gents in their finest garb went about their daily business. Even the air itself felt charged with history! You could almost taste the anticipation of a new year, a fresh start.
The ballet world of 1745 was as vibrant as the London streets. I learned from my historical scrolls that this year marked the debut of the legendary Jean-Georges Noverre. Oh, his influence! Noverre, the father of modern ballet, was determined to push the boundaries of this art form and give it a richer story. This wasn't simply dancing for display anymore, darling! It was art expressing narratives! I simply couldn’t resist popping into a theatre, to absorb this groundbreaking theatrical energy!
While in the city, I managed to see several theatrical performances that were all the rage back in the day, including "The Double Distress, Or, A Pair of Lovers" by the playwright George Barnwell and the Italian comedy “The Comical Lover, or The Adventures of Love.” There were even pantomimes! Imagine, those balletic tales in performance. You could feel the audience swept away, I bet, the way I'm swept away watching ballets today! I collected some old theatre bills too, wouldn't you love a souvenir like that!
Of course, I had to stop by some of London's grand fashion houses, admiring the elegant silks, brocades, and laces on display. Imagine all those glorious fabrics fashioned into ball gowns, lavish costumes and tutus! I simply adore vintage fashion. It's so unique and elegant, don't you think? If I ever decided to time-travel through the 18th Century again, I would stay much longer to admire all the clothes and find out more about their theatrical productions, as well as the styles that graced their ballet dancers, for back then there was a lot more stage fashion that the elegant dancers on stage today wear. I was even able to try on a few headpieces – some serious feathers on those hats! They had some pretty pink trimmings, though I'm always a big fan of bright pink myself!
One of my favorite things about time travel is seeing the history I read about in the books come to life right in front of me. It was magical seeing all of these happenings. The world of ballet in the 18th century is incredibly exciting. You can really see the artform transforming. From intricate court dances to daring stage productions, it was a thrilling time to be a ballet fan! The people in London seemed so stylish and sophisticated – especially with their big wigs and puffed up sleeves – just divine. It made me wish for a pink tutu-themed time travel fashion show, showcasing ballet and everyday clothing through time! Wouldn't that be fun!
As I finished exploring 18th-century London, I could already sense that Magic Meg was getting ready to take us back home to my Derbyshire village. There was such a sense of excitement and the scent of change and adventure in the air, but as my feet tapped their ballet-esque goodbye on the cobblestones I was feeling bittersweet about my quick time travel.
The biggest takeaway from this trip? You never know where history will take you and the little moments make up the magic. And most importantly, every time travel journey, no matter how big or small, gives me so much inspiration to create! As my eyes shut and Magic Meg's magic swept me back into the modern day I began thinking up my latest tutu design, a classic pink one infused with an 18th-century sparkle… I think I will need some extra lace and some feathers too!
As always, stay tuned to www.pink-tutu.com for more thrilling time-traveling tales and let's keep spreading the love for tutus!
Love, Emma xx
