Hello, darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, dedicated to all things pink, sparkly, and of course, ballet! This month, Magic Meg and I are whisking ourselves back to the 10th of October, 1773 - a date that just begs to be celebrated!
It's a bit chilly in Derbyshire, which is why I’m absolutely delighted to be packing my trusty pink tutu and venturing back in time. I'm wearing my newest creation, a cascade of shimmering pink tulle with delicate embroidery – I’ve just got to show it off! (I must confess, I have to wear extra layers for this trip. You know, the 18th century wasn't quite so into thermals as we are.)
Before I hop on Magic Meg's back (oh, you should see her shimmering pink coat, just the sweetest touch of whimsy for this journey!), let's delve into what was going on in the world of ballet on this very day.
In 1773, the ballet world was in a bit of a frenzy. You see, Jean-Georges Noverre, the genius behind “Ballet d’Action” (that’s dramatic ballet to you and me), had been revolutionising things for years. He wanted ballet to be more about storytelling and emotions, not just fancy footwork, you know? Well, darling, guess what? On this day in 1773, Noverre took the world by storm (and by “world” I mean the whole of France!) by directing a revival of “La Fille Mal Gardée,” or “The Ill-Guarded Girl” - it was an instant hit, making its premiere in Bordeaux.
Ooh, and guess what else was happening that year? Well, guess what - The Queen of Denmark, Caroline Mathilde, was absolutely besotted with ballet. Can you blame her? So, in a whirlwind of pink tutus and exquisite dance steps, a whole company of dancers and musicians was shipped from France all the way to Denmark - Talk about a ballet holiday! They even built a beautiful little theatre in Copenhagen to hold these magnificent shows. Now that’s what I call a royal ballet adventure!
With a skip in my step and a flourish of my pink tutu, we'll be heading straight to Paris, to immerse ourselves in the heart of ballet history. We might even bump into Noverre himself, wouldn't that be simply divine? Imagine a conversation with him! “Mr. Noverre, darling, simply fabulous to meet you!” Oh, my imagination is running wild, I’m so excited!
Of course, any trip wouldn't be complete without a little retail therapy. My little pink rucksack is bursting with a fresh vintage notebook for my ballet chronicles, a delicate silk scarf in shades of rose, and even a small box of handmade pink ballet shoes. I’ve got a hunch that some lucky French ladies are going to be absolutely smitten with those! Who knows what treasures I'll find for myself along the way? A little vintage feather boa, a vintage costume perhaps? It's going to be absolutely magnificent.

Until next month, may your life be filled with the magic of twirls and pink tutus!
Love always,
