Pink Tutu Travels: September 9th 1799 - A Grand Ballet Ball!

Oh my darlings! September is officially here, the air is crisp, and the leaves are just starting to turn a glorious gold. It's time for a brand new pink tutu adventure, and this month, my lovelies, I'm whisking us away to the utterly charming and elegant world of ballet in 1799!

Remember that amazing pink tutu I got at the vintage market in Bath last week? The one with the sparkling diamanté ribbon and the perfectly pouffy skirt? Well, it's getting its very first time-travel debut today!

The Pink Tutu's Time Machine

We’re galloping towards our destination atop Magic Meg, my darling pink sparkling Shire horse with those glorious white mane and tail, and golden hooves! She is, as always, a true beauty! My leather rucksack is overflowing with ballet books, old theatre programmes and vintage pointe shoe lace ribbons – a little ballet history never hurt anyone, and a good rucksack is truly a time traveller’s best friend!

I'm all bundled up in my warmest, softest pink cashmere coat with the ruffled collar - this late-summer English air can be a bit nippy! Don't worry though, I’ve got a hot chocolate waiting for us on arrival!

September 9th 1799 - A Whirl Through History!

Right, here we are in Vienna, Austria, the date is September 9th 1799 and, my dears, it’s a night for dancing!

I've heard rumours about this event, a truly grand affair – a "ballet ball", and from the looks of it, my fellow fashionistas, it’s absolutely magnificent.

The ballroom is positively dazzling - candelabras glisten and dance in the shadows. There's a live orchestra playing the most enchanting waltz and I'm completely spellbound!

But that's not all! I hear whispers of the exquisite French dancer Marie Sallé, who became famous for her performance of the “Griselda” in 1734, is gracing the event. Her legacy is etched into ballet history and is renowned for introducing natural, simple costumes and expressions – definitely inspiring my current aesthetic! It's amazing to see how history shapes what we enjoy on stage today!

A Little Bit Of History – The World Of Ballet In 1799

The ballet world was alive with change back in 1799. People were truly captivated by its beauty and the graceful stories they portrayed on stage. The emphasis on intricate costumes and dramatic movement had already made a lasting mark!

At the time, there were several celebrated ballerinas, including Sophie Arnould, who captivated audiences with her vibrant performances in "Le malade imaginaire". And don't forget the Italian ballerina, Teresa Bellanti! Known for her ethereal dancing style and breathtaking costume designs - an absolute inspiration, wouldn't you say?

My Own Dance Inspiration

I love seeing how dance has evolved over the centuries – it’s like a magical story book with so many chapters and it’s beautiful! Of course, the art of ballet wasn't limited to Europe – it was taking the world by storm!

This era was also crucial for spreading ballet to other corners of the world! Can you imagine, my darlings, this dazzling form of art, being introduced to people all over the world for the very first time! It's absolutely heartwarming!

My Pink Tutu Fashion Inspiration

Seeing all this amazing style and movement has inspired me to start a collection of vintage dance memorabilia for the blog! I think this would make such a wonderful addition to our Pink Tutu time travels, Wouldn't you agree? Imagine an array of original sketches and programmes from famous dancers through the centuries! It's a fashion enthusiast’s dream, darling!

As for my own style, this little jaunt to Vienna is a dream! Imagine a perfectly pink and shimmering ballroom where I can pirouette and chassé! It’s a chance to be my true, glamorous self, and it just screams elegance and sophistication – a real treat! I'll be updating the blog with some snaps of this fabulous night – maybe even get a photo of my very own ‘pink tutu and the waltz' in Vienna! Just stay tuned for the grand reveal, my dears.

Toodle-oo For Now

Well, my darlings, time travel with Magic Meg is a fast journey, but one thing is clear - there is so much to learn from these historical adventures.

Oh, I almost forgot to share my top tip with you for time-traveling. If you want a magical adventure just like this, you have to go after what you love, with a generous amount of enthusiasm and an amazing pink tutu, of course. Don’t be shy, just be fabulous!

Now, if you'll excuse me, darling, this waltzing is too good to resist! Stay tuned for more adventures next month. Until then, keep on twirling in that pink tutu, and stay radiant,

Love,

Emma xx
