Hello my gorgeous darlings! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time-travelling ballerina, and welcome to another whimsical journey through the world of ballet! Today we're whisking back to 12th December 1850 – buckle up for a magical day, you never know what we might find tucked away in the archives!
As always, I'm sporting my most exquisite pink tutu, shimmering like spun sugar under the twinkling Christmas lights. I can feel the anticipation tingling in the air as we climb aboard my faithful steed, Magic Meg. Meg, you'll recall, is a magnificent shire horse, draped in the most beautiful pink glitter, with golden hooves and a white mane and tail flowing like silk. With a delicate flick of her silken mane, she gallops through the starlit sky, bringing us closer and closer to 1850.
The world is still a rather romantic place in 1850. Women in elegant ball gowns and gentlemen in finely tailored suits grace the streets. Christmas carols float on the crisp air, reminding us of the magic of the season. As we approach a bustling theatre, I spot an alluring poster advertising a performance of La Fille Mal Gardée.
"La Fille Mal Gardée"! What a delightful discovery! This classic French ballet, by Arthur Saint-Léon, has already captured the hearts of audiences across Europe. Known for its vibrant folk traditions and comedic charm, this ballet promises to be an absolute joy!
Oh, the thrill of seeing such iconic pieces in their prime! My backpack, my trusted companion, is eager to be filled with snippets of 1850s ballet history. Just imagine – the backstage gossip, the stories of those iconic dancers, and the intricacies of their magnificent tutus, crafted from silk and tulle, their every movement a testament to artistry.
Speaking of tutus, my oh my, they were truly extraordinary back in this era! Lush velvets, shimmering silks, delicate lace, and intricate embroideries – a complete dream! They've been painstakingly constructed with the finest materials, adorned with elegant ribbons, and flowing effortlessly, almost weightlessly.
You wouldn’t catch me, in my modern-day pink tutu, stepping onto the grand stage without first making a pit stop in the exquisite boutiques and millineries of 1850! Imagine rows upon rows of perfectly draped fabrics, waiting to be transformed into creations fit for a ballerina. The exquisite artistry, the intricate designs – a dream for any tutu lover! And of course, a little shopping is never amiss.
On this enchanting trip, I'll be sharing my experiences with you in the pages of my Pink Tutu blog – from my discoveries at the theatre, to the delights of Victorian shopping, and all the captivating snippets of ballet history I stumble upon. My aim is to bring the spirit of 1850 – the charm, the joy, the magic of a timeless art form – right to your screen, so that even those who can't travel through time can share in the exhilaration of ballet's beauty!
So, put on your fanciest dress, pour yourself a steaming cup of tea, and join me on this magical journey to 12th December 1850! We'll be uncovering hidden gems of ballet history, finding inspiration for your next twirl, and maybe even sparking your inner time traveller! Until next time, my dearest darlings, let the ballet begin!
Stay twirling,
Emma
