Hello my darling ballet bunnies! It's Emma, your pink-tutu-wearing, time-travelling ballet blogger, back with another adventure! 🩰💖 This month, I'm whisking us all the way back to the 12th of December 1860. Grab your tutus, darlings, and hold onto your bonnets – we're off to the Victorian era!
Now, I'm sure you're wondering, "Why December 12th, Emma? What happened on that momentous date?" Well, darling, that's the beauty of history! It's full of little moments waiting to be discovered. And today's moment? It's a beautiful snapshot of the ballet world. But I'll get to that soon, after my usual dose of fashion gossip...
The Pink Tutu: Fashion Update!I simply must share this gorgeous find! While snooping around the fashionable London shops (don't worry, I'm back in my time for this!), I stumbled across the most divine pink silk fabric! It's just begging to be transformed into a swirling, sparkling, blush-toned tutu. Think billowing layers, delicate hand-stitched trim, and a colour that rivals the prettiest rose. This will be the ultimate Parisian Pink tutu!
Don't worry, my darlings, you'll be the first to see the finished masterpiece! I'm even thinking of having it be a limited edition collection of my famous pink tutu, only this time with a luxurious touch of Victorian style!
The Pink Tutu: Journey to 1860!Speaking of the Victorian era, time to dust off my trusty leather rucksack and meet up with Magic Meg, my pink-sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves and white mane and tail (oh, how she loves a pink feather boa, darling!). Magic Meg and I are a formidable team – we just know what ballet history holds. And so, on the 12th of December 1860, we arrive at Her Majesty's Theatre in London!
Imagine the scene, my loves: gas lamps casting a golden glow on the street, elegant ladies in billowing dresses, gentlemen in dapper coats and top hats. Inside, the theatre is a world of opulent red velvet seats, chandeliers glittering, and the hum of excited conversation. It's a world where ballet reigns supreme!
The theatre boasts a poster advertising "La Fille de Mad Max!" with beautiful hand-drawn images of dancers in dazzling costumes. A quick glance at my ballet history books tells me that this is a ballet choreographed by none other than the legendary Jules Perrot, with music by one of the most beloved composers of the era, Adolphe Adam. Can you believe, darlings, this production even featured the graceful Mademoiselle Céline Céleste? Imagine – me, in 2023, meeting one of ballet's legends!
But don't worry, I'm not that close to Céleste (yet)!
We wander the backstreets of London and visit shops where ballerinas find their lovely ballet accessories, the same ones used by the very famous dancers like Céleste. I’m finding lovely velvet-trimmed dance slippers, colourful ribbons, and the most beautiful hair flowers – what a treasure trove for my rucksack! It was truly enchanting to witness the ballet world at its heart, the artistry, the passion, the beauty...all before my very eyes. It was like a little glimpse into a timeless fairy tale!
The thing is, I want you to have that glimpse, my darlings! It's my goal, you see, to encourage everyone to put on a pink tutu, to dance, to celebrate life and joy – but most of all, to embrace the magic of ballet history!
I hope you loved this adventure, darlings. Next month, I'll be venturing back to the future, to find a truly spectacular tutu, a fabulous performance, or perhaps a surprise – a story about a dance history event just waiting to be told!
Until next time, my dears, don't forget: it's all about those tutus, dancing with passion, and enjoying life. Let's make every day a pink tutu day! 💕
