Hello darlings! Welcome back to my little corner of the internet, where ballet and time travel collide! It’s your favourite pink tutu-clad ballerina, Emma, here, and today we’re venturing back to the glorious year of 1896! Now, imagine, if you will, a crisp spring morning in Derbyshire, where the air is just starting to warm, and the scent of blooming daffodils fills the air. That’s where I’m starting my journey today. My faithful steed, the magnificent Magic Meg, a pink sparkling Shire horse with a mane and tail like spun moonlight, is pawing the ground impatiently. It’s time to get our ballet-time travel on!
Before we go galavanting through time, let’s take a peek at the world of ballet in 1896. Did you know, that a young man named Sergei Diaghilev, who would later become a major figure in the ballet world, was attending a performance of the Imperial Ballet in Saint Petersburg on this very date? Isn’t that exciting? And the famous Swan Lake, first choreographed in 1877, is being performed across Europe! How utterly fabulous! Ballet is clearly the belle of the ball, even in 1896!
Today, we’re hopping onto Meg and heading for Paris, where the Ballet Russe was just starting to blossom, bringing a whirlwind of new artistic ideas to the ballet world. I can already imagine the beautiful dancers and their fabulous costumes, and let’s not forget, the exquisite tutus, all with their signature Russian style – breathtaking!
I’m imagining the bustle of Parisian streets, the elegant shops overflowing with the latest Parisian fashions, and of course, those delectable Parisian patisseries! It would be rude not to indulge in a little Macaron Madness wouldn’t it?
On our way back from our Parisian adventure, we’re taking a detour through Vienna, where we’ll catch a performance of Giselle. Can you imagine being transported to another time and place, and experiencing this timeless classic with all its emotion and beauty? It’s enough to send chills down your spine, isn’t it?
By now, my rucksack is filled with new stories and memories, collected during our time travel escapades. We’ve gathered programmes from historic performances, ballet fashion sketches, and even a few antique ballet shoes - a true treasure trove of ballet history! My little collection grows each time we journey, and with every new story and experience, my love for this beautiful art form grows even deeper!
Oh! Before I forget, darlings, we’re holding a very special giveaway to celebrate our 2823rd blog post! One lucky reader will win a stunning, hand-made pink tutu just like mine!
