Pink Tutu Travels: Post #2988: 12th December 1909

Hello, darlings! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Travels! It's me, Emma, your resident time-travelling ballerina, back from another whirlwind adventure, this time journeying to the 12th of December 1909! Can you imagine? The year Anna Pavlova, a true icon of grace, first set foot on American soil! Now, that's a ballet story waiting to be told.

Oh, but before I divulge into the magic of that moment, let me introduce you to my trusty travel companion - Magic Meg, my sparkling pink Shire horse. You simply wouldn't believe how quickly she carries me through time, with her golden hooves drumming the earth like a symphony! I do have to confess that I was tempted to wear a velvet saddle cover this time, instead of my usual saddle cloth. The colours were divine! Dark scarlet with golden trim... divine. Maybe I'll share pictures next month... Anyway, it felt appropriate to embrace the spirit of the Victorian era, don't you think?

Back to the ballet, dear readers. We landed in New York, and, as the scent of hot dogs and pretzels wafted through the air, I knew I was in for a treat. The grand New York Theatre, now renamed the City Center, was bursting with anticipation, ready for Pavlova's triumphant arrival! It was said that a full two-thirds of New York's high society flocked to the theatre for this historic performance. Such passion for ballet! The entire air felt electrifying.

The show was called 'Les Sylphides' and I must tell you, the sheer ethereal grace of those delicate ballerinas, their tulle flowing like mist under the chandeliers, just took my breath away! And Pavlova... she truly lived up to her reputation, her every movement so controlled and captivating. It was a privilege to watch such talent unfold before me, the passion in every leap, every spin.

My rucksack was bulging with precious pieces of ballet history from that night. An original programme featuring a magnificent illustration of Pavlova, a worn out ticket, and even a crumpled feather boa! (Imagine how fashionable it would be to sport a boa at our local dance class, but I digress!) The energy, the applause, and the sheer brilliance of the performance - it's something I'll never forget!

Oh! The fashionable set! What a feast for the eyes. Imagine feathered hats and intricate lace parasols, swirling skirts and elegant gowns that shimmered under the glittering chandelier. And let's not forget the men, sharp in their tuxedos, adorned with stylish ties and cravats. The fashionable elegance of that era truly made me yearn to travel back again!

Speaking of fashion... what's more iconic than a pink tutu? I know I mentioned this in last month's blog post, but it never gets old. Let me assure you, a pink tutu can work for absolutely any occasion. Whether you are out for a stroll in the park, catching up with your friends, or even just having a picnic with Magic Meg (she does enjoy an apple and a good crumble, you know!) A pink tutu is truly the answer to all of your wardrobe woes.

Right, darling readers. It's time for me to sign off for now. But before I go, don't forget to pop on over to www.pink-tutu.com for your weekly dose of all things ballet, and stay tuned for more exciting time-travel escapades next month!

See you soon!

Warmly,

Emma
