Ballet Time Travels: December 12th, 1928 - Post #3216

Welcome, darlings, to Pink Tutu! It's me, Emma, your resident ballerina and time traveller extraordinaire, and this month we're twirling back to a glorious era of elegance and grace - December 12th, 1928! Now, grab your feather boas, your pearls, and a sprinkle of that ever-essential fairy dust, because we're about to embark on a journey through time, with a pink tutu and a magnificent shire horse named Magic Meg, of course.

As you all know, I'm absolutely obsessed with all things ballet, and my love affair with the past knows no bounds. And you know what? My love for this beautiful art form shines brighter than the twinkle in Magic Meg's golden hooves, just as sparkling as her pink satin saddle. This month's adventure is going to be extra special, for you see, December 12th, 1928, is the date that a revolutionary ballet was born!

Now, before we dive into the thrilling history, let's chat about my outfit, darling. Of course, it’s a pink tutu, because what’s a ballerina time travel adventure without one? This particular tulle creation is a classic design, inspired by the glorious dancers of the era. Imagine, a cloud of pale, powdery pink, so delicately hand-stitched, its layers billowing out with each pirouette I perform! I added a dash of extra whimsy with a velvet ribbon tied in a beautiful bow at the back, perfect for showing off that stunning English countryside we are currently trotting through, wouldn't you say?

Magic Meg is positively radiating this month. Her golden hooves sparkle like tiny, sunlit dewdrops, and her white mane and tail billow behind us like the ethereal smoke from a magician's wand. Her gentle gait is so soothing as we make our way through time. Just imagine us gliding past the glistening silver streams and lush rolling hills of Derbyshire. My rucksack on my back is filled with stories, pictures and ballet treasures I'll collect on our journey today.

And now, back to our fabulous journey into the world of ballet! You see, on December 12th, 1928, the "The Triumph of Neptune" had its grand premiere in Berlin! Can you imagine? It was the first ballet produced by Kurt Jooss' company, the Junge Ballet, and the debut of what we now consider a masterpiece! A powerful tale told through graceful, fluid movements, it explored themes of war, victory, and, my favourite part, the human condition.

Can you believe it? Just picture those elegant dancers, all adorned in their beautifully crafted costumes. Imagine the music, swelling and powerful, perfectly accompanying every arabesque and fouetté! The energy, the passion, the raw beauty… I feel a pang of sadness, actually. Just wishing I could travel through time and experience it firsthand, a little pinch of time travel envy I guess. It's moments like this that remind me why I adore ballet so much.

My friend, Anna, even shared her research from the time! Apparently, this innovative piece broke free from the classical traditions of ballet, drawing inspiration from new, exciting dance styles. I love how ballet, as an art form, evolves, grows, and challenges itself!

But the magic doesn't stop there. On this very same date in 1928, there was a flurry of balletic activity happening across the globe, my darling! From Moscow to New York, the ballet world was in a full spin. Imagine! There were dazzling shows, captivating premieres, and some absolutely breathtaking costumes on display. I can almost imagine myself stepping out into a Parisian theatre, resplendent in a gorgeous, sparkling gown and a plume of white ostrich feathers perched atop my head! Oh, wouldn’t that be divine?

Remember, my darling, it's not just the stories on stage that matter, but the captivating fashion and glamorous allure of this wondrous art form. Ballet is a vibrant dance, it's the expression of the human heart in all its triumphs and tragedies, it's beauty in its rawest form. Just imagine those beautiful, shimmering dresses! How we, as a community, can bring that joy into the world! It’s why my mission, as a ballerina and time traveller, is to spread that passion and encourage everyone to experience the sheer magic of dance - a mission that begins with one thing - a pink tutu, my dearest!

You all, darling, know my favourite things - my beautiful ballet stories, watching stunning shows, buying glamorous dresses, the incredible performances - oh, don't even get me started on the performances! Remember, darling, all the fabulous fashion, the history, and even the stories, come back to one magical element. And that, of course, is ballet! It's about passion, grace, strength, elegance and joy!

I must rush off now, as I hear the music of the 1928 world calling, But promise to pop over to pink-tutu.com and share your love for ballet with me! Stay tuned for next month’s time travel adventure! And remember, darlings, always twirl with confidence, with a touch of sparkle, and, above all, never underestimate the power of a pink tutu! Until next time! Love, Emma xoxo
