Hello lovelies! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-wearing time traveller, and I’m absolutely bursting with excitement to whisk you all back to a truly fabulous decade: the roaring 1930s! 🩰✨
As you know, every month, I jump aboard my darling Magic Meg, my pink sparkling shire horse, with her golden hooves and white mane, and we travel through time to witness the most magical moments in ballet history. This time, we’ve landed in August of 1932, a date brimming with dazzling dances, extraordinary ballerinas, and enough glitter and glamour to dazzle even the most discerning dance enthusiast!
The world is alive with the vibrant rhythm of the 1930s. Art Deco designs grace every corner, fashion is flowing and luxurious, and music, oh, the music! It’s intoxicating. It's as if every heart beats to a waltz. I even caught a glimpse of the very first “modern dance” which is definitely intriguing, but it just isn't my cup of tea. 😜
Anyway, back to the ballet! Imagine, my loves, stepping into the Paris Opera House. We're lucky to witness the stunning Russian dancer, Olga Spessivtseva, in her prime. Her technique is impeccable and her dramatic presence truly electrifying. It’s no wonder she’s known as “the divine dancer” throughout the world! Her performance is a pure, mesmerising delight. I’m definitely popping some of her stories in my little leather rucksack. She truly deserves all the accolades! 🤩
Speaking of iconic ballet performances, this month, we’ve had a sneak peek at what’s on the London stage. The renowned "Le Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo", led by the legendary Sergei Diaghilev, is performing in the Royal Albert Hall. You can just imagine the atmosphere, a perfect mix of high-society excitement and genuine passion for the art.
Just picturing the legendary Tamara Karsavina, with her graceful leaps and mesmerizing interpretations, gliding across the stage in the most gorgeous costumes is sending shivers down my spine. Oh, what I wouldn't give to join her on stage!
Speaking of gorgeous costumes, the fashion in the 1930s is simply delightful! The elegant lines, the silk gowns, the dramatic feathered headpieces... everything is flowing, luxurious and, of course, in all the pink hues you can imagine! It seems this love for the feminine and pretty isn’t a modern phenomenon! I do wonder if this era would see a resurgence in the pink tutu. It might just make the most beautiful and elegant ballet fashion moment ever! ✨
Now, my dear fellow dancers, there’s nothing quite like experiencing ballet first-hand. Imagine, joining the vibrant, lively atmosphere in the theatres, sharing the thrill of every arabesque, feeling the excitement at the climax of the story, and the rapturous applause at the final curtain. I have been soaking up this special energy, watching the talented dancers as they work, training and preparing for their next show. There is always an amazing energy before a ballet show. It really is magic! 💖
Don't forget, I’m always on the lookout for new ballet stories to share with you all on my blog. Whether it's a captivating performance or a thrilling dance scene from the past, I love capturing its essence. If you have a favourite moment in ballet history that you’d like to share, please send me a message on pink-tutu.com! I would love to hear about it!
This month has been full of wonderful new experiences, but my lovelies, the true magic comes from all of you! You, the ballet lovers who embrace this art, wearing pink tutus, or not, it makes absolutely no difference to me - you all are what keeps my time travelling spirit flying! So, go on, dance like no one is watching, wear a pink tutu if it makes you feel magnificent and join me next month for more Pink Tutu Travels! 💖
Until next time,
