Post #3634: A Whirl Through the Wonderful World of Ballet on 10th October 1963

Hello, darlings! Welcome to my little corner of the internet, where we take a magical leap into the history of our beloved ballet! I'm Emma, your pink tutu-clad time-travelling companion, and this month, we're venturing back to a time filled with the twirls and grace of the early 1960s.

As always, I’m off on my travels with my darling Meg. Just look at her, isn't she magnificent? All those pink sparkles, her glorious golden hooves and the way she always catches the sunlight on her white mane and tail! My sweet, shimmering Meg, the pinkest horse you ever did see, she takes me galloping through time.

I’ve already gathered some fabulous pieces from my last adventure in the roaring 20s, oh, I simply cannot wait to show you the flapper tutu designs I've collected in my rucksack! Now, let's see what wonderful world of ballet awaits us in 1963! I'm practically bouncing with excitement.

On this day, October 10th, 1963, we find ourselves nestled in the heart of London, at the Royal Opera House. Can you just imagine, darling? Such grand elegance and history!

Tonight, the stage lights are illuminating a world of delicate pointe shoes and beautiful, graceful movements, a performance by the renowned Royal Ballet, bringing the "Sleeping Beauty" to life. Such captivating music, enchanting sets, and exquisite costuming! The stories behind the creation of the ballet in the 19th century would make any tutu-loving heart sing!

*Imagine! The grace, the skill! The captivating stories unfolding right before our eyes... * The costumes! Oh my! Just the right shade of pink, darling, with elegant layers of tulle and exquisite detail - each stitch is pure artistry, my dears! I can imagine how much effort has been poured into their creation! Just to imagine how it would feel, twirling in one of these exquisite pieces...

And that music! Tchaikovsky! Such emotional depth! I felt a flutter in my heart, hearing those familiar, haunting notes of "The Sleeping Beauty" symphony. You'll understand how perfectly it captures the very essence of love and transformation, a ballet filled with dreams!

Now, let’s go back to 1963 for a bit, and look beyond the glamorous Royal Opera House for a moment!

Just down the road, at the Sadler's Wells Theatre, the London Festival Ballet are bringing the charming story of "Coppelia" to life! It's always been such a favourite of mine - it's the ultimate whimsical and delightful dance! I have this yearning to see "Coppelia" at the Sadler's Wells, and you just know those beautiful dancers will be wearing a glorious array of costumes, each a masterpiece in its own right! I could easily spend all my time searching through ballet archives to discover how these ballerinas will have prepared their bodies and honed their dance technique. And don't even get me started on their choreography and performance skills! Simply breathtaking!

From the glamorous ballet companies in the City, our travels bring us further afield, to the world of ballet classes. Now, my dears, picture a group of girls in Derby - you know, my neck of the woods, - all bundled up in cozy woollies after ballet classes!

Such dedicated ballerinas, their focus so clear! You know, those tights they’re all wearing, that’s what's really important - those were all handmade, my dears, because back then, no-one knew where to get a really decent pair of tights. Perhaps I can pick up some vintage tips and tricks to sew a perfect pair myself when I get home to Derbyshire, that would really help! Maybe Meg can pull the cart with my sewing machine on top?! Oh, it all feels like it would be a lovely adventure.

You see, it is always a magical experience, travel through the world of ballet. I can't even begin to explain how truly awe-inspiring it is, like a whimsical dance that never ends!

And how much ballet has inspired me, with every detail I find in my travels! You know how much I adore a bit of vintage fashion, and those exquisite dance costumes that I've collected? I am always seeking to weave these delightful discoveries into my very own fashion and creations!

After all, it's not just the stage that is filled with the joy of ballet - there is ballet everywhere! A ballerina could easily create her very own ballet in everyday life, with a graceful walk, a carefully chosen outfit, or simply the attitude of always trying to bring elegance to each and every moment. That is why I just have to keep spreading the word! Everyone deserves to be wearing their very own pink tutu - it's all about the magic, that is so utterly and wonderfully inspired by ballet.

And of course, I will make sure to find the perfect opportunity to dress in a magnificent pink tutu myself, a delightful little ballet tribute, with a dash of magic from 1963!

So, until next time, darling, may your days be filled with pink tutus, dazzling performances and sparkling moments, all filled with the joy of ballet!

Love,

Emma
