Hello my lovelies! Welcome back to Pink Tutu Time Travel. Today's adventure is taking me all the way back to 12th December 1981, a date etched in ballet history! And believe me, you wouldn't want to miss it!
First things first, Magic Meg - my darling pink shimmering shire horse with the golden hooves and the most fabulous white mane and tail - is as excited as I am. It's almost time to go back in time! She's been chomping on her sugar cubes, snorting a little impatiently. She knows the way; this isn't our first rodeo. But each journey is a special adventure, a chance to discover something new and exciting!
This month, I'm filled with wonder, for we're about to enter a world of glorious ballet! 12th December 1981, the very day that Margot Fonteyn's farewell gala took place at the Royal Opera House! Now, I know what you're thinking - “Margot Fonteyn, a legendary name!”. And rightly so! Her graceful artistry, her pure elegance - she was the very definition of ballerina perfection. But I must admit, the true inspiration was the beautiful pink tutu she wore for her final curtain call! Just exquisite. My dear Meg has been adding some sparkle to her mane in anticipation, which I find entirely appropriate, and truly elegant!
Imagine! The world of ballet watching her take her final bow - a wave goodbye, leaving an unforgettable legacy. And on this momentous night, my dearest, I happened to have a front row seat! Magic Meg and I rode our shimmering way into the Royal Opera House and took in all the glory of that grand farewell. Can you imagine? A magical spectacle!
Oh, but don’t just stop at imagining! In my leather backpack (a sturdy little number, perfectly suited for time-travelling, don’t you think?), I've got a souvenir – a miniature version of the tutu she wore. It’s truly beautiful, and just the thing to inspire me in my own pirouette practice!
Of course, my blog wouldn't be complete without mentioning all the incredible events taking place in the world of ballet on that day, 12th December 1981! For starters, the English National Ballet was putting on a performance of 'The Nutcracker'. The American Ballet Theatre was in the midst of their grand season, thrilling audiences with 'Swan Lake'. And over in Australia, the Australian Ballet Company was delighting audiences with 'Giselle'. Honestly, you can’t turn around in 1981 without tripping over a brilliant ballet performance!
But it’s not just about the performances, darlings. My leather bag is bursting with information about the ballet world that December – the new creations, the exciting dancers to keep an eye on, the fashionable designs. The world of ballet, then and now, is brimming with exquisite fashion, you see, and 1981 was no different. The designs, the costumes - so captivating! I have been known to take a little inspiration from these pieces for my own creations, which always go down a storm in the Derbyshire ballet scene. And oh, have I mentioned my passion for vintage? There is no better source for timeless elegance than the past!
So, darlings, my tip for you this month: embrace the elegance of the past! Don your favourite tutu, swirl your skirts and celebrate all that is beautiful and captivating about the art of ballet!
And don’t forget! The wonderful world of ballet is waiting for you at www.pink-tutu.com, where I'll be sharing more of my incredible time travel stories each month. Now, it’s time to grab a cup of tea and watch that darling, dancing ballerina twirling on my laptop screen!
Until next month, happy swirling!
