Post #4065: A Pink Tutu Adventure to 1999, September - A Time for Triumph and Twirling!

Hello, my darling ballet-loving friends! Emma here, your favourite pink tutu-clad time-traveller, reporting live from the exciting and colourful world of 1999. This month, I've been transported back to September, where the air is crisp, and the leaves are starting to blush a vibrant gold. My trusty steed, the majestic Magic Meg, a shire horse whose pink coat glitters under the sunlight and whose golden hooves sparkle like a thousand stars, is ready for a journey into the past. But before we leap back in time, let's talk ballet!

Have you seen the new collection by "Tutu de la Rive Gauche"? My oh my, their pink tutu designs are positively divine! I couldn't resist snapping up a blush-toned creation with shimmering sequins, perfect for my trip back to the 90s. Imagine waltzing through a 1999 theatre under the glittering chandeliers with a tutu like that - a dream come true!

September 1999 - A Time for Ballet Excellence

In 1999, September was buzzing with exciting ballet events. In London, the Royal Ballet was captivating audiences with a production of "Swan Lake". Can you imagine, dancing on a stage in front of so many adoring eyes? And don't forget the Bolshoi! This illustrious Russian company was presenting "The Nutcracker" – a delightful classic that still fills my heart with magic, even though I've seen it a hundred times.

I can't forget the breathtaking spectacle that was the “Diamonds” from "Jewels," created by the fabulous George Balanchine, still so influential in 1999! I imagine the glittering, diamond-encrusted costumes against the deep stage backdrop; absolutely mesmerizing. Oh, to have been in the audience watching the effortless grace of the ballerinas as they flitted and soared across the stage.

Time Travelling through 1999

Arriving in 1999, Magic Meg carried me swiftly to London, where the streets were a symphony of colourful fashion, loud music, and the energy of youth. London was the centre of all things chic back then - so much glamour! I immediately rushed to the Victoria & Albert Museum to catch an exhibition showcasing the works of the pioneering English ballerina, Marie Rambert. What a delightful opportunity to learn more about a true ballet icon who revolutionized dance.

From London, I journeyed through England's heartland, stopping at grand manor houses with elegant gardens and the hushed quiet of historic churches. Each place was an inspiration to me - a glimpse into the life of 1999, a fascinating blend of past and present. I was especially charmed by a visit to a quaint village where they still hosted annual dance festivals. There I met a young dancer, Sarah, who was following her dreams, much like me! She dreamed of becoming a prima ballerina someday, and I shared with her the story of my time travelling journey. Sarah told me she felt like ballet connected her to all the dancers from history - I thought, how true that is!

Of course, no trip through 1999 would be complete without exploring the captivating city of Paris. As I stood gazing at the majestic Eiffel Tower, I could almost hear the sounds of "Giselle" echoing in the Parisian breeze. The city is alive with dance history; I imagine it must have been just as charming in the 1990s!

Filling my Rucksack with Memories and Ballet Treasures

I wouldn't be a true ballet enthusiast if I didn't stop at antique stores, hoping to unearth a vintage pink tutu! Though I couldn't resist a stunning pair of pointe shoes from 1999, their dainty satin and ribbons still fresh. I slipped them into my rucksack, along with sketches of Parisian street performers dancing for tips and an old newspaper clipping about the resurgence of ballet in England - fascinating, isn't it? It's wonderful to see ballet reaching out to so many, to spread the joy and grace of dance in every corner of the world.

The rucksack also houses a precious silk scarf I purchased in Paris – adorned with exquisite ballet-themed designs, each telling its own tale. My collection of time travel trinkets keeps growing with every adventure - my time travel bag, brimming with stories and ballet treasures.
