Hello my darling darlings! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu-wearing time traveller, back with another whirlwind journey through the world of ballet!
This month, on our ever-so-fashionable pink steed, Magic Meg (you wouldn’t believe the sparkle factor, she's literally like a walking disco ball with hooves!), we’re hopping back to… July 2013! Oh, the excitement! This month was full of wonderful ballet moments, all tucked away in my sparkly pink rucksack for you to enjoy.
Number 4231: Back in time to July 2013!
So, what was happening in the world of ballet in July 2013? Well, my dears, the dance world was buzzing! The Royal Ballet were in full swing, holding the world premiere of Liam Scarlett’s new production of 'Frankenstein', which must have been positively electrifying! 😱 And across the pond in New York, the American Ballet Theatre had just unveiled its much-anticipated production of Alexei Ratmansky's 'Concerto DSCH', with the fabulous David Hallberg starring as the lead. Talk about a treat for the eyes! 👀
Back in the UK, July was also bursting with thrilling regional performances. The Birmingham Royal Ballet was staging their vibrant production of ‘Giselle’, and oh my, could you imagine seeing those breathtaking leaps and turns live? They were likely performing their captivating ‘Sleeping Beauty’ as well – simply divine! And let's not forget our Scottish pals in Edinburgh! They were getting swept away in the Edinburgh International Festival, brimming with breathtaking performances from dancers around the globe. Isn't it amazing how ballet brings people together, across countries and cultures? 🌎❤️
Now, I simply had to indulge in some vintage ballet fashion research during my July 2013 sojourn. And guess what I found? (drumroll please…) A delightful exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum showcasing ballet costumes from the 20th century! Imagine all those beautiful, flowing fabrics, dazzling sequins, and intricate embroidery. Just heavenly! I may have acquired a few rare pieces for my personal collection, don’t tell Magic Meg though… shhh!🤫
Speaking of fashion, I always say a ballerina needs to stay current with the latest trends, even when time-travelling! And this month I saw some amazing ensembles on stage. Think dazzling costumes, sparkling tutus, and captivating accessories – a perfect combination for an enchanting performance. 💖
After all that exploring, I couldn’t resist popping into one of the many exquisite tea rooms of 2013! It’s all about balance, wouldn’t you agree? 🧁🍰 It’s truly wonderful to relax and enjoy the ambiance while reminiscing about my exciting ballet escapades. And you can bet that I indulged in a scone or two while planning my next trip, because a pink-tutu-wearing ballerina needs her sustenance! 😂
But you know what they say, all good things must come to an end… or at least a temporary pause! Magic Meg is neighing for a good graze, and we’ve got more ballet history to uncover!
So, darlings, remember: life is a stage, and every moment is an opportunity to dance! Embrace the magic, twirl with joy, and never, ever forget to wear your pink tutu! Stay stylish, and I’ll see you next month!
XOXO
Emma
