Post Number 4324: April's Ballet Time Travel Adventure! 🩰🌸

Hello my dearest Pink Tutu followers! Welcome to another exciting adventure in ballet history! I'm Emma, your Derbyshire ballerina, and this month we're twirling our way back to the enchanting world of April 2021. Buckle up, my lovelies, as we explore a magical time filled with toe-tapping ballet moments!

As always, my trusty companion, Magic Meg, is saddled and ready to carry me through the time portal. Magic Meg, my dear pink-sparkling Shire horse with golden hooves and a magnificent white mane and tail, always seems to know the right way to go, even through the fabric of time! My rucksack is overflowing with tulle, ribbons, and old ballet shoes ready for another incredible treasure hunt! Don't you just love the history of ballet?!

Ballet Highlights of April 2021

This April in ballet history was brimming with talent and creativity! There was so much going on! Let's get right into it!

Firstly, the Royal Ballet at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden was on fire with their exquisite production of "The Sleeping Beauty". This classic fairytale ballet stole my heart back in 2021 with its stunning costumes and magnificent dancing. Imagine: soaring leaps, graceful pirouettes, and enchanting story telling. It was absolutely magical! Can you imagine? My dear reader, we were on the edge of our seats. I imagine the audience was absolutely thrilled, all in their best ballet frocks and ties! Now imagine this, imagine if you were to see the very same production now, the wonder, the wonder! Just like in the play itself!

And talking of The Royal Ballet, April 2021 saw the incredible "Manon", the one-act "A Suite of Dances", and "The Dream", by Frederick Ashton, based on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream (the latter was premiered at Sadler's Wells Theatre).

It was a grand time for the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow with "Romeo and Juliet". My oh my, what passion and heartbreak was played out on that stage! A tragic masterpiece that leaves us sighing for our own Romeo and Juliets! Now that would be an amazing story for our little time travel bag!

This year saw the launch of a wonderful film about the English National Ballet's 2019 production of "The Sleeping Beauty", with their own, exclusive cinematic screening! How wonderful! There really is nothing more beautiful than ballet captured on the big screen, just like the movie magic of our very own "The Red Shoes"! πŸ‘ βœ¨ Now that would make a delightful little memento to tuck away! The English National Ballet was performing "Giselle", at the London Coliseum in April. It was the perfect ballet to see, and would be another grand memory to bring back from the past!

It was a time of beauty and innovation across the world, my lovelies! I imagine you would all have been very proud of The Royal Ballet's "Giselle" tour across America. This beautiful ballet is always a hit across the world, so of course it would be a perfect production for those audiences. America was also treated to The Joffrey Ballet in "Don Quixote" - what a lively, whimsical performance! The joy on the faces of those audiences is surely one that they remember well. Oh my, I want to see the joy in everyone's eyes when I get everyone wearing pink tutus!

On the opposite side of the world, The Australian Ballet celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2021. A very special anniversary year! This means many exciting gala shows and wonderful ballet performances! I bet they were all dancing into the night! πŸ’ƒπŸ•ΊπŸŽ‰

The ballet world was thriving with new productions and innovative work, in addition to the familiar, stunningly executed classics, my lovelies! It truly was a time for all lovers of ballet! It wouldn't surprise me if the fashion in 2021 was all over ballet. I mean, ballet is just so beautiful! Just like the color pink, isn't it?

My Tutu Tales

On this April day in 2021, we ventured into the heart of London, the buzzing heart of ballet! We saw posters on the London Underground, advertising all of the amazing ballet events, the "Giselle" tour across America, the "Don Quixote" at the Joffrey Ballet. There are posters for The English National Ballet performance of "The Sleeping Beauty" (it would be interesting to see the premiere production - now wouldn't it? Imagine bringing back the costume for a Pink Tutu Museum? - Maybe some pink slippers - we'll keep them in a pink box for safety!) There is something wonderful about a beautifully designed poster! Maybe it should be printed on some lovely pink paper! It certainly sets the scene for all the fantastic dance events happening across the globe!

We strolled through the vibrant Covent Garden area, surrounded by lively street performers, just imagine the amazing dancing, and all that life! It made me want to get up on the stage and dance myself! I felt like a little ballet doll! (It wasn't long until a group of street dancers gathered and they started dancing to The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky. What a happy time!) And my, don't you just adore Covent Garden? A glorious collection of fashion, style, culture - with the Opera House looming up in the background like a graceful, theatrical princess. I could wander there all day and just dream about ballet! What a lovely dream for Magic Meg to carry me through the time portal.

This little escapade certainly added a touch of Parisian glamour to our travels. A bit like "A Midsummer Night's Dream", actually! Perhaps one day we shall journey back to that magic world and experience the true theatrical marvel.

This, my friends, is how I travel the world - exploring, collecting ballet memories and ballet stories - making the history of ballet come alive. Every trip is so wonderful! What shall our next adventure bring?

Thank you so much for reading. Until next time, my lovelies!
