Hello darlings! Itâs your favourite pink-tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here, bringing you another instalment from the pages of my ballet-filled adventures! September 2035! It's time to pull out the sparkly pink and dust off those pink satin ballet slippers â the world is simply brimming with fabulous ballet events this month.
Let me tell you, my dear readers, it was absolutely sweltering in the Derbyshire countryside last week. I was on my way to check the dates in my trusty vintage "Ballet Calendar 2035" when I saw a magical glint. A sprinkle of pink shimmer on my lawn. Then a hoof print - a large, golden, sparkly hoof print, leading straight to Magic Meg's stable.
Magic Meg, my fabulous pink sparkly shire horse (don't ask where she got the glitter, darling!) with a gleaming white mane and tail and golden hooves - she knows when there's an exciting ballet date looming. As the August sun warmed us both ( my little pink linen jacket didn't stand a chance against the Derbyshire heat!), I took a quick peek at my vintage "Ballet Calendar" to see where we should venture next.
And lo and behold - September 2035 - oh my goodness, darlings - September is jam packed with spectacular ballet moments across the globe. Weâve got Londonâs Covent Garden, Parisâ Opera Garnier, New York City Ballet â the ballet world is positively buzzing this month, and my rucksack is ready for its biggest fill yet. Magic Meg is rearing to go.
*New York City Ballet - âLa Bayadèreâ: A Tale of Timeless Elegance and Intrigue *
We began our adventures in the vibrant and dazzling metropolis of New York City, in the heart of Lincoln Center's David H. Koch Theater. "La Bayadère" â oh, the opulent spectacle! A symphony of pink (naturally, my favourite!) in the elaborate sets and the exquisitely detailed costumes of the gorgeous, delicate dancers.
There is a tale of passionate love and heartbreaking betrayal. I especially enjoyed the Kingdom of the Shades - so graceful! Those ballerinas - so utterly feminine as they pirouetted through the mist, just captivating - truly a moment of magic on stage.
I spent the entire show with a gleeful grin on my face â what a privilege to experience this breathtaking ballet, which first appeared on a Russian stage in 1877, back when tutus had layers upon layers of tulle and there were so many flounces! It really makes one ponder how much the world of dance has progressed in just a century! I could imagine the gasps from the audience way back then - a truly timeless spectacle indeed.
The New York âLa Bayadèreâ is a reminder to us all that while fashion (and especially ballet fashion!) comes and goes in fads and trends, classic beauty transcends the times. I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with a ballerina from the "La Bayadère" production - oh, the elegant moves, the precise grace! And her pink-tutu? Scintillating!
I think her performance, like a thousand others that have danced before, is a tribute to our heritage as well as our future! The dance, it never fades!
*A Stroll through History - Paris, Paris, oh la la! *
After my magical adventure in New York, I found myself wishing for the charms of Paris, a city as elegant as ballet itself. But first, darling - my rucksack - oh, the souvenirs! Every performance I go to is a chance to gather memories and stories in my leather rucksack. Thereâs the program for "La Bayadère," a feather boa from the ballet (a vintage pink one - just for me!), and a signed photograph of a young dancer! The sheer amount of material here in this fabulous bag!
But I must tell you, it's worth carrying the extra weight because every single thing thatâs in my bag has a story - every item a little slice of the ballet history of 2035! I've found I need the stories from past performances to inspire the incredible ideas for my upcoming performances back in Derbyshire!
Paris. A magical city for a magical day with Magic Meg. Oh my! The Parisian "Ballet OpĂŠra de Paris" performance at the Opera Garnier of âCinderellaâ was a must. I mean, the spectacle! An enchanting, glittering and colourful production, it truly felt like the fairytale of the shoe came to life before my eyes. So beautiful and heartwarming - I was on cloud nine with every pirouette, every arabesque. It's just remarkable to see this fairy-tale ballet, that debuted all those years ago in 1945, still captivating audiences in the modern day!
We strolled through Paris - such an exciting time for a pink-tutu-wearing time traveller as Paris has the most captivating ballet stores - every shop has at least one amazing pink tutu and some stunning shoes. As we walked the bustling streets of Paris, I got caught up in a flurry of fashion and a world of vintage ballet costume and footwear.
Paris. Such an insanely beautiful and historical place. The story of Parisian ballet is intertwined with history - think of La Belle Ăpoque, and then imagine those elegant ladies dressed in stunning tutus - so beautiful, so captivating - the dream! As I walked past the elegant Parisian architecture, I was inspired to share with you a few words of a poem written by Victor Hugo from the 1800s: "Paris! Oh Paris! I will sing your glories!â Such a perfect poetic encapsulation of how much I adore this city.
And did I tell you about the delicious French macarons? I found an adorable boutique tucked away in a side street â so decadent - the perfect sweet treat for a delightful balletic day!
Home in Derbyshire, where Dreams Take Flight
We are now back home in the charming English countryside of Derbyshire! I know, right? Who can travel so far in one week?! Well, when you have Magic Meg at your side and a heart filled with passion for ballet (and pink!) the world truly is your dance floor.
And my home in Derbyshire? Well, it needs its dose of "Pink Tutu Time Travel." Magic Meg will need to rest up after her extensive adventures â she will definitely have to learn more fancy steps when we return to our dance routines together.
I've got a full schedule ahead of me â two grand performances, a workshop for younger ballerinas and a meet-and-greet with my dear Derbyshire fans (a few of you, bless your hearts, wear pink tutus to the shows - oh how I adore you for it).
This month - I have been thinking! The ballet history I have learned in September has inspired a few of my own ballet designs! I have a special performance planned - I will dance in a new tutu design created as an homage to the classic âLa Bayadèreâ (it has to have pink - donât you worry - thatâs my speciality!)!
And guess what, darlings! You can learn some of my choreography too! If you pop over to my website, www.pink-tutu.com, youâll find a tutorial. I know this sounds mad, but a dance performance at the Theaters Royal Nottingham in September will help fund my next adventure. Oh, my goodness! I've already started making plans! Who could guess what magical and breathtaking experiences await us all in October?! Perhaps, dear readers, you'll have some suggestions?
It's time to put on my pink satin ballet slippers and practice those moves! Remember: ballet is a celebration of art, movement, and storytelling, but, most importantly, itâs a celebration of all things pink!
Till next month, sweethearts - stay sparkly, stay feminine and keep dancing!
*Love, Emma *

*The Italian design - so gorgeous. You can imagine an Italian dancer pirouetting, gracefully showcasing those beautiful pink slippers! *
I've even designed a pink-tutu based on it! Isnât that inspiring!
