Hello my darlings! Emma here, back from a whirlwind trip to Paris, the City of Lights! It was utterly divine, of course, and even more special as I was time travelling to a magical period - 2058! Imagine - a ballet world brimming with imagination and breathtakingly innovative productions!
This month, my trusty companion, Magic Meg, and I were whisked back to Paris. This time, however, we weren’t visiting a cobbled street with quaint cafes and the scent of croissants in the air - oh, how I love that scent! We found ourselves amidst the futuristic splendour of a truly stunning new theatre built in the heart of Paris, the ‘Opéra Nouvel.’ It was all soaring arches and mirrored surfaces, bathed in a soft pink light, just perfect for a ballet enthusiast like myself.
I absolutely love a good, modern theatre, so the Operá Nouvel was like a dream come true! It’s actually quite different to the Parisian opera houses from older eras that I’ve previously visited - and the performances were something else entirely!
But first, I simply had to explore the city itself. Paris always welcomes me with open arms - and in 2058, it was an explosion of colour and excitement. They’re very much into bright, clashing shades, neon lights, and futuristic fabrics! The shops are like a dazzling rainbow and, of course, the ballet fashion scene here was simply divine! The fashion houses of Paris really push the boundaries, using advanced technology for stunning ballet costumes and stage design. It really made me want to run out and buy some sequins and metallic thread, just so I could attempt to recreate it myself!
Now, for the actual performance. This wasn’t your standard, traditional ballet by any means, dear readers. The story - as I recall, it was set in a sort of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ parallel universe with fantastic creatures and impossible situations - was captivating and absolutely brimming with original choreography.
Let’s just say the ballet dancers truly embodied their roles! The sheer athleticism, grace, and emotion displayed were astounding! One dancer, named Aurelia (and, yes, the Parisian fashionista in me must point out, her ensemble was simply breathtaking – neon orange sequins with an emerald green plume!), really captured the spirit of the piece with her portrayal of an mischievous and enigmatic fairy creature! I couldn't help but feel her story and be swept away by her dancing, all that elegance, the effortless grace and her almost magnetic presence on the stage! The music was truly captivating, a symphony of electronica blended with classical music, adding to the enchanting atmosphere.
While I usually prefer a more traditional setting for a ballet show, this futuristic twist completely captivated my senses. Seeing the seamless blending of cutting-edge technology with ballet is a sight I won't soon forget. I really wish they’d make an album of the music for us, I have a feeling it would be a real hit in my world.
My most cherished souvenir from this trip wasn't just a sparkly ballerina figurine I found in a quaint, bohemian shop (with a fabulous selection of tutu inspired attire - must do a full review of this gem later!), it was a little program from the performance with Aurelia's autograph inside! I always make sure I snag some memento of every trip I make, some trinket or item, to bring home with me and I'll keep it safe in my leather rucksack, for future generations to discover and learn from my experiences.
Now, before I sign off for this month, let's talk ballet shows - I'm always up for a little bit of gossip and some inspiring, artistic wonderment! You see, there’s just something so enthralling about those intricate steps, graceful movements, and powerful expressions.
And so, darling readers, this is a quick rundown of some of the spectacular ballets set to captivate audiences across the world during July 2058! (Note – times and dates might differ across the globe so double-check with local theaters for exact details, though I must admit, in the future, we hardly need any more than a thought, or a glance at our phone for those details! ). But you are in the know now, from the experts, me!
First, a modern twist on the classics The Royal Ballet in London is presenting a groundbreaking interpretation of Tchaikovsky's 'Swan Lake.' This performance takes place in a futuristic underwater setting and includes a revolutionary digital set design. It sounds like an absolute treat, I simply must make it back in time to see it!
Back to the basics: In the USA, the New York City Ballet is hosting their renowned annual 'Summer in the City' series, showcasing a diverse selection of ballets, including classical works by Balanchine and modern pieces by young, emerging choreographers.
Something totally unique: In the realm of contemporary ballet, the Dutch National Ballet in Amsterdam is hosting a piece titled "Digital Dream." It explores the impact of the internet and artificial intelligence on society, so interesting! I can’t wait to learn more.
If you love a good story: In Tokyo, Japan, The Nippon Ballet Company will perform a visually captivating and emotionally powerful story based on the life of Coco Chanel. How interesting is that!
Now, with all of this artistic wonder going on across the globe, there’s really only one thing I have left to say, wear a pink tutu. It truly is the perfect ballet outfit for any occasion!
Until next month, keep your toes pointed, stay stylish, and never forget the magic of ballet!
Much love,
Emma xx
