Post 4780: A Flutter of Pink in 2059: Ballet & Fashion with Emma!

Hello, darling dears, and welcome back to my pink-tutu-licious corner of the web! It's me, Emma, your trusty time-travelling ballerina, straight from Derbyshire, ready to whisk you away to the fascinating world of ballet history! This month, we're hopping into the time machine (otherwise known as Magic Meg, my glorious pink, sparkling Shire horse) and galloping all the way to 2059!

Hold on to your tutus, folks, because this time journey is gonna be absolutely fabulous! Now, I must confess, 2059 was a little tricky in the "ballet" sense, as you know, history, as well as fashion, is always a little up in the air, and it can get rather messy!

First off, the big surprise was that despite what the old books from back then said, tutu's hadn't gone completely extinct! There were, it turned out, still some dancers who appreciated a good swish of a sparkling pink fabric, and even more astonishing was that they weren't even hiding it away for "special occasions". They were using pink tutus as part of their costumes! (And by pink tutus I'm referring to some delightfully flamboyant outfits in bold shades, some were nearly crimson, like candyfloss! It was thrilling!).

Now, to delve into the world of ballet in 2059: I wasn't going to lie to you - It was all a bit.... abstract! Not all the dancers, you see, seemed to like using music, not like you and me! I don't mean "bad music," dearie, I just mean that a good percentage of ballets seemed to be happening completely silent. Now, it's fair to say this is not the style of ballet I was accustomed to from back in good ol' Derbyshire - my favourite ballet show will always be the timeless "Swan Lake" at the Royal Opera House, London, where I do enjoy the elegant classical steps performed to the glorious sound of Tchaikovsky.

Speaking of ballet, a huge excitement in 2059 was the rise of a rather eccentric ballet-comedy theatre performance called the "Whistling Swans!" The performers in this were a mixed bunch – a mix of humans, robots, and AI-controlled holograms who all danced about in various, what would you call them… I’d say, flamboyant, styles of what I guessed to be ā€œballetā€, or ā€œtheatrical performanceā€! It was truly wild, and certainly not without a certain humour. And although there wasn't any tutus (those were firmly restricted to some lovely, almost "costume"-looking numbers with bold swathes of fabrics) the costumes were absolutely out there! Think metallic colours and geometric shapes! Very different, dearie, from our graceful, beautiful, timeless classical lines! I think a pink tutu or two would definitely spice things up, you don't agree? I think those brave performers would welcome a bit of pink shimmer in their world.

Another interesting element I encountered in this time-period were the new, very innovative use of "VR-ballets"! This involved an odd set of dances that could be accessed by simply "putting on a headgear device"! It wasn't the same as watching an "ordinary" ballerina performing on stage - though that’s probably why people started coming up with new ways to see ballets, the sheer practicality of being able to travel to Paris or Moscow to watch the ballet performance has gone - after all who has the time, and money? Still, as an observer, I find the new "VR-ballet" an incredibly creative innovation in terms of accessibility to a larger global audience! Even better? People can still choose their own tutus and put on whatever colours or fabric they wish in this virtual world. There really is no need to change anything that you, our beautiful pink tutus. You are truly timeless.

To recap - 2059, I would say, wasn't your classic era in the world of ballet but for anyone who enjoys a little abstract movement with futuristic tech, and a generous helping of avant garde fashion, you might enjoy it! It just shows, dearie, that in any era, people need art and, thankfully, that also includes ballet in one form or another. As for myself, the time is drawing close for my next ballet performance (a "Ballet Extravaganza" in Covent Garden!). You can imagine I'll be twirling on the stage, of course, with a lovely, voluminous pink tutu! So be sure to drop by, say "hi", and grab a ticket to come join me on my dance journey! Until next month - have a wonderful time - and go out there and embrace your own "inner" tutu, in any era you are living in!

Lots of love,

Emma xxx
