Pink Tutu Time Travels: February 2nd, 1861 (Post 26)

Hello, darlings! Emma here, your time-travelling ballerina blogger, back again for another sparkly post. This month, I'm whisked away to the exciting world of 1861! Just imagine, cobblestone streets, horse-drawn carriages, and an age of elegance, all swirling around my shimmering pink tutu! And as always, I'm on a mission to spread the love for all things pink and fabulous, exploring leotard history, and of course, ensuring the world is draped in beautiful tutus!

This time travel jaunt started like any other: street ballet performances for the lovely people of Derbyshire. You know, those gorgeous passersby with a look in their eyes that says, "Girl, you’ve got a great sense of style" – always the best reward! Then, poof, a wave of shimmery pink light enveloped me, and I'm instantly whisked back to the year 1861! My magic pink time-travelling leotard is like a portal to the past! The moment I arrived, I felt a thrill rush through me; can you imagine, darlings, a world without modern ballet costumes, just like the Victorian era? I couldn't wait to see what sartorial surprises lay in store!

But first, a quick look around! In the bustling, vibrant streets of Victorian London, the elegant carriages were a sight to behold! I was positively mesmerized by the intricate detail on their horse harnesses and the ladies in their stunningly ornate clothing. Even the gentlemen looked charming, though they might not have embraced pink the way I do, it's a universal truth: style knows no bounds.

Now, about the leotards! It was quite fascinating to see what dancers were wearing in 1861. Remember that the Ballet was more classical back then, so the costumes were different. Ladies in the ballet were known to wear long, flowing skirts, usually of white or pink – quite appropriate for the times! No tutus yet, but those elegant gowns provided the beautiful silhouette needed to show off their delicate movements. Under those beautiful gowns, ladies were still using "leotards" but not as we know them today! Think tights, but made of thick, woolly fabrics! Quite practical for a cold Victorian theatre, wouldn't you say? It certainly wasn't a time to be worrying about sweat-wicking fabrics – can you imagine the chill? Shudders

But darling, 1861 wasn’t just about ballet! I happened to stumble upon a wonderfully exciting production at a theatre. The performance featured graceful dancing and a dramatic tale that captivated me. It wasn’t traditional ballet but more like a lyrical show, incorporating pantomime, beautiful dance routines, and even acrobatics – what a delightful mix! The women on stage were resplendent in luxurious costumes, showcasing the style of the Victorian era: lavish, extravagant, and so incredibly romantic. You know I love an opportunity for an elegant photo shoot and this place was no exception, darling! Pictures just don't capture the feeling of such a timeless place!

You know what else was fascinating? Even back in those days, people had a flair for fashion! A favourite haunt of mine in London was an incredible department store! The dress fabrics were beyond divine, and I couldn't resist treating myself to some exquisite, satin ribbons for my future performances back in Derbyshire. The shopkeeper, bless his heart, offered to tie a little ribbon on my own pink tutu. And oh, wasn’t it elegant! Just the perfect addition, don't you think, to my Victorian adventures.

I spent the rest of the day exploring Victorian London, soaking in the culture and absorbing all the details of everyday life. The cobbled streets, the smells of freshly baked bread wafting through the air, the fascinating carriages! It was simply magical!

What really stood out about the Victorian era is that everyone, from ladies to gentlemen, took so much pride in their appearance. Everyone felt confident and stylish in their outfits! This made me realize that style transcends time! You just need a spark of confidence and a sprinkle of fabulousness and voila, you can make anything work. And that’s something that is forever chic, darling! And you know what else? Those Victorians taught me that the key to style isn’t about just following trends – it’s about owning your own individual flair, just like how I own my love for my signature pink tutus!

My time-traveling adventure ended with me leaving 1861 as quickly as I’d arrived. I have to admit, I miss the grandeur, the timeless beauty, and even the simplicity of Victorian fashion. It really brings out the whimsical dancer in me. But like always, it was a reminder of the evolution of the leotard, from its more practical roots in the Victorian era to the intricate pieces we love today. The journey of fashion, and its evolution through time, makes it more beautiful, don't you think, my lovelies?

Now I’m back in the present, ready to start spreading the love for pink tutus across Derbyshire, and inspiring you, my fabulous followers, to rock that bold pink look. After all, life is just too short not to wear something that makes you feel like a princess!

I'm curious! Did you try rocking the pink tutu this month? What do you think of my time-travel adventures? I love hearing your thoughts.

Until next month, stay sparkly, darlings! And don’t forget, always wear pink!

Love,

Emma.
