Hello my darling little dandies! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink-tutu clad time traveller! It’s a bit chilly out here in Derbyshire, even for May, so I’m cosying up in my fluffy pink dressing gown while writing this month's post from the warmth of my living room! Today I'm taking you on a whirlwind trip through history - fasten your seat belts, darlings, as we head back to the year 1867!
But first, my darlings, let me tell you all about last night! I gave a little performance down in Bakewell town square, raising some funds for my latest time travel escapade, as you all know it's quite the expensive hobby, but absolutely worth it for a true fashionista such as myself! The weather was lovely - just warm enough to wear my gorgeous baby pink sequin leotard and tulle tutu - just divine! I danced the Sugarplum Fairy's delightful routine to Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker, and oh my darling, you should have seen their faces! They loved it! A nice chap in the local bakery even gifted me a box of perfectly-pink cupcakes! Such sweetness. It really filled me with joy to spread the love of dance. And wouldn’t you know it, several children, after the performance, asked for their mothers to buy them pink tutus. Just wait until I see my sales figures for www.pink-tutu.com this month, the joy! I can’t wait to make these gorgeous tutu dreams a reality!
Right then, lets get back to my adventures in time, my darlings!
It’s 5th May, 1867! Can you believe that? I can hardly! And you know what? The world of leotard fashion is absolutely blossoming. Literally.
Bloomers, My Dearest Delights!
As any true fashion historian knows, the 19th Century was an era of exciting transformation, particularly for ladies' garments. That famous bloomers, made popular by Amelia Bloomer, were just making waves during this period - I adore those free and fluid shapes, don’t you? It is a joy to wear them!
I love how those iconic loose-fitting trousers with a gathered ankle perfectly reflect that beautiful yearning for women to have more freedom in clothing, as well as during their activities. I imagine women on stage in those bold bloomers, graceful, confident, and taking to the stage like blooming flowers! * I know I wouldn't shy away from sporting a dazzling *pale pink brocade bloomer onstage!
But this 19th century bloomer look is not the only sartorial style that deserves a spotlight in our spotlight on *1867’s fashion scene! *
Lace, Silk, And So Much Pink!
Let’s talk leotards, darlings! Though still fairly new on the scene, leotards in 1867 are finding their place in the theatrical world. The leotard is being seen increasingly as a base layer, used to give more form to flowing gowns, skirts, and yes, bloomers. Imagine delicate white silk bloomers gracing the stage, with an embroidered lace-trimmed pink silk leotard flowing just beneath! Divine, is it not?
What a lovely blend of style! This era represents such a wonderful confluence of comfort, fashion and theatrical flair. Oh my!
Fashion In The Victorian Era:
Ladies, picture 1867's leotards, crafted in fine fabrics. Cotton, silk, lace, velvet - think beautiful colours! Imagine pale pink, blush, salmon, and delicate creams, and think *refined, elegant, yet also allowing freedom of movement! * A joyous evolution for stage fashion indeed.
But you know me, darling! I don't only time travel through time, I time travel through style! Let's indulge in fashion dreaming! I envision a stage where the ladies perform with exquisite lace details accentuating the waistlines of leotards, creating those gorgeous hourglass silhouettes that were so iconic of the 19th Century. Imagine those exquisite lace frills in pastel pinks, adding delicate adornment to both ballet leotards and even those daring, delightful bloomers!
A Peek Into The Past:
I also travelled to Paris, my dear readers, to the Salle du Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, and took a peek at *French fashion. * Imagine ladies on the stage wearing graceful, fitted leotards in vibrant shades - shades like sapphire, jade and scarlet! It was exquisite. I imagine that in the quiet, after-hours moments, they all danced in the warm, golden light of stage lanterns, their flowing pink gowns catching the golden light and blending into a beautiful symphony of motion, and those intricate leotard patterns. Pure magic, my darling. Just magic!
Oh darling! This fashion travel has me longing to visit London's Royal Opera House ! It must have been an unforgettable sight, seeing the stage performers clad in their enchanting creations. They certainly made a bold statement - and quite rightfully so!
Pink Tutu Fashionistas:
My dear sweethearts! It is time to start imagining our pink tutues of the 1867 fashion era!
Think feminine, romantic, and utterly elegant. We’ll talk about soft layers of pink tulles, perhaps with those gorgeous, delicate Victorian embroidery patterns. A bit of lace, a bit of sparkle – the possibilities, darling, are endless! Just picture your ballet leotard gliding gracefully in that ethereal tulle, and all in gorgeous pink, of course!
What an incredible adventure! Time travel and leotards. This is truly what life is about!
Until next time, my lovely dandies, dance and sparkle like the diamonds you truly are!
Emma.
