Hello darling, welcome back to www.pink-tutu.com!
My name's Emma, a ballerina from the sunny hills of Derbyshire, and you're about to enter my magical world of pink tutus and time travelling leotards! I know, I know, it sounds crazy, but I can assure you, my dear reader, it's all absolutely true! And trust me, there's no better way to explore the world of leotard fashion than through the dazzling doors of time!
Today we're stepping back into the 19th Century, landing right in the heart of Victorian England, on the glorious 10th of October, 1871. Just imagine, bonnets, crinolines and all! What an amazing adventure awaits us in this fashion forward era of ballet, my darlings!
As always, my magical sparkly pink time travelling leotard got me there in a flash. Honestly, how I love its comfy stretch and sparkly glamour! As I floated out of the time portal, the aroma of pipe smoke and horse manure filled my senses (a little less glamourous, that!), but then my eyes landed on a theatre marquee advertising, "The Russian Ballet - Tonight!" This was my time to shine, literally!
Let's chat ballet! While Victorian times had strict fashion rules, ballet dancers broke the mould! In those days, ballerinas performed in knee-length skirts or calf-length tutus. And oh, my, what leotards! Think simple, elegant shapes in black, white and delicate pinks, just begging to twirl and spin! Some even boasted elaborate ruffles and ribbon detailing - pure Victorian ballet magic!
Of course, I just had to witness the ballet for myself, but, a secret from my own time, I brought a specially designed leotard along for a little performance on the cobblestone streets! My trusty, custom-made leotard from the 20th century with its sparkly, glittery, and iridescent embellishments was a real head-turner. Imagine, the ladies in their bonnets and their stiff corsets, the gentlemen in their top hats and fine waistcoats… all gasping at a tutu clad girl with glittery leggings performing street ballet! Now, that’s fashion travel at its finest, don’t you think? I could have spent the entire afternoon just seeing their shocked faces and admiring their stunning clothing! I truly felt like I had become part of the Victorian dance, showcasing a taste of the 21st century right in their own era.
Talking of the era, the Victorians certainly loved a good show! I discovered they were enthralled by ballerinas, like the world famous Virginia Zucchi, with her exquisite dance moves and graceful form. Can you imagine, a whole room enthralled by a single ballerina, her leotard twirling beneath the gaslight glow? Talk about star power! And guess what, Virginia had her own fashion range! My fashion blogger heart was screaming!
This journey made me realize, fashion in the ballet world has always been an evolving tapestry, always in tune with the times, pushing boundaries and expressing stories through movements, styles, and colour!
Oh, my! It's a whole world out there for leotard lovers. Now, where do you think I should time travel next? Let me know in the comments below! Don’t forget to pop over to my instagram (@pink_tutu) to check out the amazing photos from today’s journey!
Remember, my lovely readers, every single one of you can have your own time travelling pink tutu adventures - it’s just about finding that inner sparkle and embracing your own fashion sense! So don your pink tutus, let's bring some sparkle and grace to every day!
Until next month,
Emma. xxx
P.S. Remember, I fund my time travels with my street ballet performances! Catch me performing near the Victoria Theatre, Nottingham (don't worry, I always dress for the era!). My tips always go towards the upkeep of my sparkly time travel leotard!
