Post #322: 10th October, 1885: A Pink Tutu Time Travel to Victorian Vaudeville!

Hello lovelies! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, here with another instalment of my leotard fashion blog! This month, I’ve whisked myself back to 1885, right into the heart of the Victorian era! Imagine my delight when I landed smack bang in the middle of a dazzling vaudeville show in London's grand West End.

Pink Sparkles and Victorian Glamour

Just picture this, darlings: the shimmering gaslights of the theatre casting a warm glow over the plush red velvet seats. A stage decked out with shimmering curtains and intricate, painted backdrops, setting the scene for a fantastical performance. And guess who arrived in her signature pink sparkling leotard just as the curtain went up? Yours truly, of course!

My time-travelling leotard had worked its magic once again, seamlessly blending in with the period style. Imagine: a blush pink satin leotard, all glittering with strategically placed rhinestones, a flowing tutu crafted from a cascade of pale pink tulle and silk stockings finished off with chic pink ballet shoes. A vision of Victorian glamour, if I do say so myself!

Vaudeville Dreams:

As the performers took to the stage, my heart simply fluttered with delight. Acrobats leaped through the air, singers with impossibly high voices captivated the audience, and dancers pirouetted and posed with breathtaking grace. But the star of the show for me, naturally, was the costuming!

This wasn't the delicate, classical style of ballet I'm used to. Think of it as a riotous explosion of vibrant colour and intricate detail. Think corseted waists, dazzling feathers, dramatic swirls of silk, and – most importantly – lots of leg-baring, tantalising glimpses of sheer hosiery! These women, draped in decadent fabrics and extravagant adornments, were simply magnetic!

Oh, and don't get me started on the costumes worn by the male performers! Those tight-fitting, form-fitting trousers – they were positively daring for the era! Just imagine how bold those bold designs would have looked back then, pushing the boundaries of what was considered acceptable attire! My darling pink tutu wasn’t a shocking fashion statement for these audiences.

Inspired by History:

Honestly, I've never felt more inspired in my entire life! My mind is buzzing with ideas for my next leotard creation. Imagine combining the exquisite elegance of a Victorian ballet skirt with a daring, contemporary silhouette - a fusion of the past and the present. This trip has ignited a whole new level of excitement in my creative journey.

But hold on to your pink tutus, dear readers, because this journey didn't end with the theatre! My love for fashion – and leotards, naturally! - led me straight to the bustling markets of London’s bustling East End, searching for antique fabrics and vintage finds that could potentially add a touch of 1885 glamour to my own wardrobe.

You know, darlings, the time travellers secret is keeping my street ballet performances a regular thing – those silver pennies really make a big difference. It doesn't get more inspiring than seeing those awe-filled faces in the crowds! I’ll even wear one of my many Victorian leotards from this trip during the performance too – it’s sure to be a sensation. It’s so much fun to connect with the public while sharing my passion!

My Pink Tutu Journey Continues:

I hope you’re enjoying these glimpses into the world of leotard fashion throughout history as much as I do. Each trip is a thrilling adventure. I can't wait to see what kind of fashion discoveries my next trip holds. And who knows? Maybe I'll even get a chance to share a stage with a few Victorian dancers myself!

Keep your tutus on and tune in next month for a new blog post full of fabulous leotard finds and exciting time travel shenanigans.

Until then, keep twirling and shimmering. You are all the pink princesses of leotard fashion!

Emma xoxo
