I’m positively bursting with excitement to share this month’s journey – buckle up because we’re heading to a glorious era for leotards! And guess what? This time, it’s a double whammy – we’re not only travelling through time but taking a trip to the grand stage of the Paris Opera! Isn’t that exciting?! I am already picturing a spectacular show, and who knows, I might even spot some leotard-inspired fashion, fit for a queen! 👑

Speaking of treasures, I’ve just found an exquisite vintage leotard from my latest vintage trip – more about that later! But first, let’s go on an exciting trip back in time! 🕰️
1886: A Parisian Ballet Dream 🩰✨Imagine it with me, my darlings. The air is filled with the heady scent of lilacs as I glide along the cobbled streets of Paris. It’s July, and the sun is high in the sky, illuminating everything in a golden glow. My time travelling pink, sparkling leotard is catching the light as I stroll down the streets, taking in the scene. This year, 1886, has so much to offer, so much glamour, such magnificent craftsmanship in the world of leotards – oh, darling, I feel a twirl coming on! 💃
Paris in the late 1800s is a true fashion capital – the home of all things chic and stylish, and even more so in the world of ballet. This year, there’s one leotard design that’s causing quite a stir. It’s the “Opéra de Paris”, and I can’t wait to find out all the juicy details. The leotards themselves are a masterpiece of form and function, all elegant curves and beautiful flowing lines, they’re designed for freedom of movement, all the while highlighting the graceful lines of a ballerina’s physique.
Of course, in Paris, it’s all about detail, even down to the smallest details, and this is certainly the case when it comes to their leotards! There’s nothing finer than an elaborate ballet performance, all swish and twirl and dramatic flourishes. A dance piece might call for the ballerinas to wear elaborately decorated leotards. We’re talking, of course, exquisite embellishments – think shimmering sequins, twinkling pearls, glittering diamante – a true symphony of sparkle and shine.
There’s another thing that sets the ballet scene ablaze in 1886 and I’ve been itching to talk about it – tutus! And this is one particular year where “tutu-mania” really took hold! You wouldn’t believe the stunning creations - imagine, fluffy, tiered, full-blown, cascading skirts with swirling embellishments. The very air around them was pure magic! 💫 There were layered tulle creations, flowing silk fabrics, and shimmering velvet finishes. These tutus, each more exquisite than the last, weren’t just meant to be looked at – they were created to accentuate the grace and flow of movement of a true ballerina! Imagine a cascade of colour, delicate fabrics dancing in the light, and the ballerina gliding across the stage. A pure spectacle of joy! 🩰
I can’t resist finding out what the “Opéra de Paris” has on show. And of course, being the leotard enthusiast that I am, I had to make my way to the stage and find out about these famous leotards. I am lucky – in this particular time, it’s the perfect season, July is usually the peak season, the theatres bursting with life, dancers rehearsing day and night, a truly dazzling atmosphere! And this month, they're presenting one of the most talked-about ballets in Parisian history - “The Bayadere”. Oh my goodness! This must be why there’s such excitement over the “Opera de Paris” leotards – these exquisite creations have been designed especially for this very show! This is certainly going to be a leotard dream, with the ballerinas twirling on stage in exquisite garments, dazzling everyone with their skills and their style! A ballet and leotard fanatic’s heaven!
There is a real buzz about town – so I found myself with a lovely, elderly ballet aficionado – her name was Henriette – She was as lovely and sweet as could be, she offered me tea in her gorgeous, elegant, well-loved flat, all chandeliers, floral wallpaper, and mahogany furnishings! Henriette showed me some wonderful memorabilia – programmes, photos, she even had an invitation to a “The Bayadere” performance – now you’re really speaking my language! Her home was an absolute treat for my eyes. A real leotard dream. I soaked up the details of her exquisite home décor – she explained how the latest fashion was a real Parisian talking point, as if a whispered rumour of fashion excitement and inspiration. I love to discover these little fashion secrets that pop up in the most surprising places – a perfect slice of history, frozen in time.
Henriette, bless her soul, shared a real treasure – an antique fashion catalogue - I think you would just fall in love with it - and so did I! We’re talking elegant sketches and beautiful illustrations of the very latest leotard fashion! There was so much to discover – intricate drawings with swirling embellishments, stunning fabrics, graceful lines – everything my fashionista heart desired! A true inspiration! 😍
My time travelling leotard fashion tips: 🌸 I've been inspired by my time travelling trip, so I've been adding a few vintage details into my look this month - I even found a delightful pink bow to tie in my hair and a gorgeous pearl hair clip. I feel like a Parisian fashionista!
And in a world that sometimes feels a bit serious, let’s bring a splash of whimsy and joy with a pink tutu! I encourage everyone to add a touch of sparkle to your outfit! A pop of pink tutu - let’s face it, there’s no better way to add a little sparkle and delight to any occasion, even if it’s just heading to the local shop. Just picture the joy!
