Pink Tutu Time Travel: Leotard History, 11th November 1890!

Blog Post #383

Hello, lovely readers! Emma here, your friendly neighbourhood pink tutu enthusiast and time-travelling leotard aficionado. As you all know, I adore all things leotard and fashion, and it's a genuine passion of mine to share the fascinating history of these fabulous garments. So, pack your pink tutus and hop aboard the sparkly time machine, because we're taking a trip back to 11th November, 1890, to explore the wonderful world of leotards, the outfits of dreams!

Oh, you’re new here? That's wonderful! If you are unfamiliar with my world, you can check out the many exciting previous posts I've written on www.pink-tutu.com! If you haven’t seen any, let me quickly fill you in - I am Emma, a Derbyshire girl with a dream - and a sparkly time-travelling pink leotard! This fantastic outfit lets me zip through the ages and bring you the most amazing leotard fashions from across history. How does it work, you ask? It's a little bit magic, a dash of sparkly pixie dust and lots of passion for pink! The more I travel the more my love of leotards grows, and who knows? Maybe someday we'll even persuade everyone to wear a pink tutu! (Wishful thinking, but one can always dream, right?)

So, onto my adventure! For the 11th of November 1890, we have been swept away to a time before the glorious tights revolution. A time when dancers had to rely on the perfect fit of their leotards to feel fabulous. The ladies on stage would be sporting lovely fitted velvet leotards or silky, slinky cotton ones, in elegant shades of deep ruby red, navy blue, and, of course, the oh-so-fabulous classic black! Oh how they would long to twirl in a silky pink one! It wouldn’t be long, as pink as a colour was becoming very popular around the end of the 19th century! And how I would have loved to have brought one to show them, or to have watched the show in my own glorious sparkly pink leotard!

I can't travel back to these wonderful days without a street performance in my pink tutu, which happens to have a magnificent, sequined pattern on it. All my time travel is funded by performing. Nothing like a ballet-inspired routine to give those lucky folk who come to my shows a taste of pink-tutu fuelled glamour! I did once give a show in my sparkly pink leotard at a local Christmas market! The crowds were mesmerized as I danced and twirled my way through the market. It was quite the show stopper, they just loved the twirls. Even got the locals wearing a few tutus! It really brought the pink and joy, you know, my favorite combination!

Okay, back to 1890! Where were we? Ah, the shows! Theatres across Europe were abuzz with grand productions and the biggest stars of the day would be taking centre stage in their dazzling leotards. The Ballet Russes were putting on their breathtakingly beautiful ballets and their leotard fashion was at its most exquisite. It's the age of the Victorian era, where ballet dancers graced the stage in intricate corsets and long tulle skirts, just begging to have a dramatic fling! How I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that grand ballet scene, to see them swirl in all their glory and perhaps even offer them some of my modern leotard inspiration. Maybe a little pink tutu makeover would give a delightful touch of something extra?

Oh! Look at the time, it seems I have just barely scratched the surface! To all the delightful pink-tutu-wearing dancers out there: Never be afraid to explore the wonderful world of leotard fashion! Embrace every opportunity, just like me, to bring a touch of glitter, colour, and joy to every occasion. And who knows, perhaps we’ll see a little bit more of the world of leotards next month… And what better way to conclude our travelogue than with a grand, twirling flourish in my dazzling, sparkly pink tutu, right here in Derbyshire! I will be giving my regular shows as well - see the links at the bottom! Happy twirling everyone, see you next month, and until then, may you have many happy pink tutu days!

See me in my pink tutu perform this Saturday night, 7pm in Derbyshire’s Market Square!
