A Time-Traveling Ballerina's Journey to 1897: Parisian Ballet Dreams!
Hello my darling darlings,
Welcome back to my monthly peek into the fascinating world of leotard fashion and the ever-so-delightful time-traveling escapades of your favourite pink-tutu-clad blogger, Emma! This month, my sparkling pink time-traveling leotard zipped me all the way back to July 1897, to the beautiful and vibrant city of Paris, the heart of ballet fashion!
You can just imagine my delight as I pirouetted onto the bustling cobblestone streets, the air thick with the perfume of blooming lilac and the gentle notes of a distant street organ. Imagine it: a beautiful Parisian afternoon, my shimmering pink tutu twirling around me as I stepped into the most gorgeous tea salon I had ever seen. They had the most adorable little cakes, you wouldn't believe it! And speaking of adorable, I'm certain the dainty pink silk leotard I'm sporting would have been right at home among the stylish Parisian ladies.
Of course, I couldn't resist the allure of the theatre, so I popped in to watch the very latest Parisian ballet performance. It was simply divine, and quite the spectacle! All those glorious flowing gowns, beautiful, intricate costumes, and the dancers in the most wonderful leotards... all in vibrant colours and such refined cuts and exquisite details. Imagine: pale pink leotards with lace trimming, or the stunning blues and emerald green with beautiful sparkling sequin embellishments! The dance moves, the costumes, the whole experience! Just exquisite!
In 1897, the world of ballet was just beginning to blossom, and Parisian fashion was at its height. The beautiful tutus they wore were a sight to behold! The classic tutus, those with tiers of soft, romantic tulle that made the dancers look like fairy creatures, and even more decadent tutus made with satin and embellished with lace and embroidery were everywhere. They truly were a sight for sore eyes, they took your breath away.
In the theatre that day, my pink tutu stood out like a beacon, a gentle reminder to the Parisian ladies that sometimes, the simplest colours, are often the most beautiful. Their elegance, however, couldn't be denied, it was exquisite. Oh how I yearned for the days when dancing was a graceful art, not just a strenuous activity as it is today! Don't get me wrong, I still enjoy the amazing acrobatics, but I feel the dance has lost something over the years. Maybe a return to simple, graceful dance could inspire the return of more graceful and delightful leotards as well!
But my time-traveling adventure wasn't just about Parisian dance. I also spent some time browsing the incredible millinery shops of Paris! Now, I adore the dainty hats with soft pastel feathers, flowers, and bows, that you'll find at every millinery shop! There is an air of exquisite charm and playful grace to the style. It reminded me so much of our modern day use of pastel colours, so refined and soft, in our beautiful pastel leotards and ballet dresses, don't you think? I really hope one day a revival of fashion, for beautiful little hats, might come to us. The shops of Paris held just such elegance! Don't you agree?
In those Parisian shops, the beautiful ribbons, and bows adorning their elaborately-crafted creations, whispered to me of a different era, an era of fashion so detailed and elegant! And imagine, those elaborate creations matched the beauty and sophistication of the leotard designs. Imagine dancing under the Parisian lights, wearing a light and flowing pink tutu, a bejewelled tiara, and a beautifully embellished pastel leotard with delicate lace. Such exquisite elegance! It’s no wonder ballet fashion became a huge inspiration to fashion houses throughout the world! The influence was truly everywhere!
But this Parisian trip wasn't just about admiring beauty; I also took some time to connect with local Parisian dance academies and meet some of the brilliant dancers and their teachers! They were passionate about the beauty and discipline of dance, and some were just as delighted by my love of all things pink! I believe that a pink tutu can make the world a little more magical! And let’s be honest, wouldn't a pink tutu make every dance look ten times more spectacular?! I may be biased, of course, it’s my favourite colour and, well, it’s pretty obvious that I love tutus, in any colour really.
Just the other day, I was dancing through my beloved Derbyshire countryside when I saw a flock of swans by a lake! The sight reminded me of ballet. And reminded me to remember to remind all my lovely blog readers of how important dancing is for wellbeing. Whether it’s ballet, or folk dancing, or just letting loose with some contemporary dancing in your living room - it's good for both body and soul.
I had the most splendid time in 1897 Paris! It really made me appreciate how beautiful, delicate and simply divine ballet and its fashion truly are. The costumes were exquisite. It was also a timely reminder that dance is something truly special. Whether you love classical ballet, or modern street dance, or folk dancing. A graceful tutu is a symbol of grace and art, in any style, in any era! It is something to celebrate. And something I love to see everywhere I travel! So go ahead and wear a pink tutu whenever the mood strikes, and remember to share your adventures on Pink-Tutu.com! It’s such a fun way to keep the dance alive!
Your dearest dancing friend,
Emma
