Today's journey takes us all the way back to the 11th of November, 1898, a date etched into history for so many reasons. It was, for example, the day of the disastrous sinking of the S.S. Maine, a huge event! But today, I want to chat about what was happening in the fabulous world of leotards!
Now, back then, leotards were very much a dancer's staple. Think of a stretchy, single-piece garment that gave freedom of movement - a total must-have for any ballet routine! It was a different time, of course. The leotard's name hadn't even come to be!
So where was Emma on this particularly enchanting date? Well, my lovelies, I was actually at the Paris Opera! Imagine - being transported to that magnificent building, its grandeur oozing from every corner. And what a show! We're talking about La Belle Epoque, a time when Parisian ballet was simply bursting with extravagance. Think swirling costumes, dazzling sets, and captivating music. It's the era of the fin de siècle, the end of the 19th Century!
And this was where I found myself, a pink-tutu clad ballerina lost in a magical time warp. You see, that year, in 1898, there were these very special leotards that became all the rage. They were cut quite high on the legs, giving the ballerinas a sleek, athletic look. Think thigh-high leotards in beautiful colours, designed to showcase the elegance of each step. They looked just perfectly dreamy in their light, airy silk!
That day at the Paris Opera, the costumes were an incredible mix of pink, lavender and lilac with shimmering tulle and satin. I felt so very at home in my own sparkly pink leotard, a real ballet beauty dancing among the Parisian ballet stars! I even snagged some inspiration for my latest tutu creation - a touch of shimmering lavender to add a bit of Parisian sparkle, perhaps?

That evening, after witnessing the dazzling choreography and magnificent costumes in Paris, I donned my own magical time travelling tutu, a masterpiece in sparkling pink and whipped up my trusty pink sparkly leotard and took to the streets! There was something truly electrifying about performing in front of a crowd of curious onlookers. Their smiles were the biggest reward. It's amazing how the joy of dancing transcends time, don't you think?
