I know, it sounds like an age ago, but trust me, fashion history is never dull, and there's a special magic to watching these fabulous leotards come to life over the ages. So, grab your teacups and settle in, because we're about to embark on a journey through time, my loves.

Brrr... the crisp winter air of Derbyshire has been replaced by the cool chill of a Parisian street! How utterly fabulous! It’s the height of the Belle Époque – a time when fashion was everything. I feel utterly divine twirling through the streets in my time travel-worthy sparkling pink leotard. Imagine: lace, silk, decadent jewellery – it’s like a fairytale. I think this is definitely the year for some serious dancing to bring that Parisian glamour to Derbyshire!
On this February day, the fashion world is awash with luxurious velvet and silk fabrics. Imagine my darling leotards, the colour of rich ruby reds, deep purples, and, my absolute favourite, luxurious emerald green! I even spotted a leotard fashioned from soft cream lace, with delicate embroidery of pearl beads – just perfect for a graceful waltz. These leotards are a delight!
Leotards, however, are a secret passion of this era. Imagine this, my darlings: leotards are worn, of course, beneath long skirts! I can’t help but dream of them! It must be a delightful secret, just for us. The women I’ve glimpsed, looking their most elegant, walking the streets with a mischievous smile on their lips, give me a delightful hint of these concealed treasures. The idea of peeking under these grand skirts to see such exquisitely-crafted pieces fills me with anticipation!
And of course, dear friends, where would a time traveler be without a peek into the world of theatre! It’s my greatest love!
The Ballet Scene in Paris
The Parisian ballet world is just as glittering as its streets! Ballet was a true passion of the elite in 1905. Think tutus of white silk, decorated with glittering diamante embellishments, flowing tulle skirts and dainty leotards beneath. Even the simplest of styles are captivating with delicate ribbons and soft shades of pastels. I had a wonderful moment chatting with a lovely dancer from the ballet de l'Opéra, and her story reminded me how much dancing is, at its core, about self-expression.
Of course, there's another hidden secret: Ballet is just starting to move beyond the confines of the traditional! Ballet movements are starting to change - more dynamic, expressive. The focus is moving away from the classic stories and costumes and pushing into new territory with the dances and style. How utterly thrilling! I am filled with an urgent desire to return to this moment!
But even with the allure of Parisian nightlife and its secret world of leotards, it's always good to return home and share these discoveries with you, my darlings! I cannot wait to try some of these 1905 fashion finds for myself when I return home!
