Pink Tutu Travels: 12th December, 1905 (Blog Post #564)

Hello my darlings! Emma here, back with another whirlwind of time travel adventures, just for you! This time, I've landed in a particularly delightful decade - the glorious 1900s! My trusty time-travelling pink leotard shimmered me straight to London town, just in time for a fascinating glimpse into the world of fashion, or rather, Leotard Fashion as it were!

Oh, I just adore the late Victorian and Edwardian eras! The romance of the fashions! The swish of silks! The bloomers! It's all so enchanting! The delicate details on a bustle dress, the layers upon layers of lace on a tea gown! But for a dancer like me, what's really grabbing my attention today is a leotard design so forward-thinking it’s practically whispering of the 20th century!

Now, remember how I always talk about my mission to spread the glorious gospel of the pink tutu, right? Well, today, the whole "ballet fashion" thing got super exciting! It all began with my typical exploration of the day's Leotard News. (Let's be real, my "day" is anything but typical, haha!). It seems a lady named Isadora Duncan, a most fascinating figure, a kind of dancing pioneer if you will, is causing quite a stir in London with her captivating movement style.

Now, darling, you all know that a little pink-clad dancer can't resist a good scandal! This Duncan, she's not just any old ballet dancer, she’s quite the maverick! Instead of the stiff, structured, corset-confined fashions that were typical of the day, gasp she's performing in… leotards!

And you know what’s even more surprising, she's rocking a long, flowing tunic, almost like a dress! Imagine, my loves, a single-piece garment made for movement and freedom. Now, this is a revolutionary concept, isn’t it?! This Ms. Duncan was clearly ahead of her time!

My sweet readers, I had to see it for myself. Off I flitted to the venue where she was performing! I blended in, naturally, in my glittering pink tutu – just a fellow dance aficionado! It was amazing, just amazing! Duncan was so utterly captivating! She glided and danced in that graceful, flowing leotard like a vision of movement itself! And the entire room seemed to sway and whisper with admiration, some in shock, others in awe.

The way she danced, it was like a revolution happening on stage! All about expressing the soul, not rigid movements and perfectly posed arms. There was passion, darling, there was energy, and spirit in every move! She really made the simple act of moving a kind of… poetry!

It was a dance expression unlike anything I'd ever seen. Imagine the sheer freedom and the feeling of being uninhibited. I must admit, as I watched, my pink heart just about burst with excitement! Leotards! In the world of professional dancing? My heavens! This is definitely something I have to tell my online followers, don't you agree?

And now for my favourite part of my adventure! After the performance, I found a lovely shop called 'Liberty & Co', filled with such elegant and whimsical items - perfect for my pink tutu! Imagine this – delicate lace trimmings, silk ribbons in pastel shades, feathers! There were even corsets designed with special attention to dancers and their movement. Can you picture it, dears, a pink corset adorned with exquisite lace for the ballet? My pink soul went a little bonkers, I tell you! I couldn't help myself – I bought some beautiful materials for a little costume inspiration for my own performances.

Later on, I popped by a theatrical supply store. Now, darling, they have the most intriguing leotards and dance wear - a sea of colours! Of course, the pink ones caught my eye. So much so that I actually ended up chatting with the owner, who was such a sweet and knowledgeable chap, brimming with enthusiasm. He was also the one who pointed out to me that leotards, my beloved, revolutionary leotards, had been making their way into other fields as well - gymnastics, even some early form of aerobics! How wonderful is that!

It was a glorious day, really. Evenings in 1905 are so… well… atmospheric. I treated myself to some vintage theatre – a musical show called "The Merry Widow." The music was so much fun and, let me tell you, it was filled with elaborate, flowing dresses, and I saw some stunning leotards on the dancers, shimmering under the stage lights. Oh, to dance beneath those lights and share that sense of freedom and expression!

Now, while I'm so grateful for this time travelling pink leotard and my love for all things pink, there's something special about this decade, darling. There's a revolutionary spirit here. And in the heart of that revolution, leotards are starting to bloom, right alongside the pink! Oh my dears, who knew? Maybe a future full of pink tutus isn’t as far off as we might think!

This is Emma, your personal leotard guide to time travel. Catch me next month for another adventure. Until then, darlings, keep on spinning, and don’t forget to wear pink, just like I do!
