Pink-Tutu Blog Post #576: A Twirl Through Time! December 12th, 1906 - Oh La La!

Hello my darlings! Welcome to another shimmering, sensational instalment of your favourite time-travelling leotard adventure. Emma here, back from another extraordinary journey! This month, I’ve had the most incredible time in 1906, exploring a fashion world just brimming with excitement.

12th December 1906: A Parisian Affair

Today’s date has been all about Parisian chic! I touched down in the City of Lights, sporting my new, sequined pink tutu and feeling very much the part of a Parisian ballerina! 1906 was a wonderful time for ballet, as dancers embraced more movement, and I just loved seeing the beautiful designs and fabrics of the era!

A Little About the Leotard History

Now, let's talk history for a moment! In 1906, ballet was evolving – think of it like your favourite leotard getting a chic, modern update. And yes, the leotard – my personal fashion obsession! The early 1900s were a significant era for leotards in dancewear.

Back in those days, leotards were starting to move away from the rigid corsets of the past. They were becoming sleeker, more figure-hugging, made with silk and satin, which created a whole new aesthetic on stage.

But, wait for it! The leotard was not yet the staple we see today. The stars of the ballet still favoured elaborate costumes with lots of tulle, but I was excited to see the subtle evolution towards the sleek and athletic style that I adore.

The Theatres of 1906

I went to see a magnificent ballet performance at the Théâtre du Châtelet – the name alone screams elegance, right? – and the atmosphere was electric! You know me, darling – I was dancing in the aisle by the end of it!

And then, oh, then I stumbled across the most glorious vintage clothing store, filled with treasures from another era. I snagged the most exquisite silk leotard in a beautiful dusky pink colour - imagine, like a rosebud just blooming! - a real triumph of 1906 style.

A Time Traveler’s Wardrobe: Pink Is ALWAYS In

I simply love how fashions come back round, but let me tell you, in 1906, it wasn’t pink all over, not yet, not quite! Although, I saw a few fashionable women daring to wear delicate, blush-toned garments, which gave me hope!

Of course, in the realm of leotards, there's only one color that reigns supreme, right, darlings? That’s pink!

Oh, and speaking of fashion… did you know that ladies in 1906 wore corsets, petticoats and those wonderful long gloves, and dresses that just trailed down the streets? I felt just like a character from an enchanting story!

A Tip for the Fashionable Soul

If you are going to see a show, don’t just go in your everyday garb, darlings. Dress for the occasion, just like you would to a grand ball! I find that being stylish gives an extra zing to the performance and is a lot of fun, right? Go ahead, put your hair up, grab your favourite sparkling top or sparkly leotard and just feel good about it!

Keeping it Pink and Sparkling: Funding my Leotard Time Travel

As you know, time travelling takes quite a lot of funds and resources! I can’t just hop through time on whims and fancy, I do need to manage a bit of money. And you know what's great about ballet? It's more than just dance, it's a show! It’s performance art, a fashion statement!

Every month, I earn enough to keep my time machine powered, all by sharing the magic of street ballet with you lovelies! I’m often seen around Derbyshire, spinning through the local market and giving it my all, in my favourite sparkly leotard, earning my passage through time, one twirl at a time! And if you're ever near Chesterfield market square… look out for me! Who knows, you might even get a chance to twirl with me!

And That's All for Now, My Dearies!

Remember, always strive to be the very best version of yourself! You're fabulous, darling. You deserve all the pink tutus in the world.

I’ll see you next month, with more exciting adventures!

Always twirling in pink,

Emma
