Hello my lovelies, and welcome back to my pink tutu-filled time-traveling escapades! This month, I'm whisking you all away to December 12th, 1908, for a dazzling journey into the world of leotard fashion.
As you know, my heart belongs to leotards - in all their styles, colours, and textures. And, if you haven't guessed, my favourite colour is definitely pink. So naturally, my trusty pink sparkling leotard (which, let's face it, makes time-traveling a breeze) is gleaming brightly today. It's paired, as always, with my signature tulle tutu - because who can resist a little bit of extra twirl factor?
This time, my time machine landed me in London. It's chilly out there (it's December, after all), but the atmosphere is electrifying. Today's London is alive with festive cheer – shop windows are aglow with Christmas decorations, and carols fill the air. The excitement is infectious!
Leotards in 1908: The Dawn of the Dance
Now, while leotards may be synonymous with ballet nowadays, in 1908, they were just starting to make their way into the dance world. Think tights or bloomers with a top. In fact, I have a feeling that I've been transported into the midst of the legendary Isadora Duncan. She is absolutely captivating with her expressive movements, all wrapped up in a soft-toned, loose-fitting tunic. A bit different from our form-fitting modern dance wear, wouldn't you say? But no less enchanting, darling.
Speaking of captivating, today marks the opening of the prestigious "Alhambra Theatre in Leicester Square." Just imagine, I can already hear the strains of music emanating from its doors. A performance by the iconic "The Empire" will transport audiences into the glamour and spectacle of the theatre world. Can't wait to see how those lovely ladies are clad in their onstage leotard fashion. I'm expecting intricate embellishments and daring silhouettes, all inspired by the romantic styles of the era.
But it's not all about the stage, darling. The street itself is full of leotard inspiration. The year 1908 was the start of a revolution in sportswear and women’s fashions, and let's just say, the ladies in London aren't shy about flaunting their figures. You can see this in the sleek lines of their blouses, skirts, and yes, even their corseted garments.
Finding the Perfect Pink Tutu
While I adore watching the street style and theater fashions unfold, it's just as important to do some shopping for my own pink tutu collection. I'm off to "Liberty London," the renowned department store with an eye for the avant-garde, to search for some vintage treasures to add to my wardrobe.
"Liberty London" was already a shopping haven in 1908. With its commitment to fine crafts and unique styles, it’s the perfect place to find exquisite silks and fabrics, ideal for transforming my dream tutus into reality. I'm hoping to stumble upon some exquisite lace trims and ribbons that will add a touch of 1908 charm to my outfits.
Oh, and I just stumbled upon the perfect "Pink" tutu – just as I promised I’d be searching for today – It’s made with a luscious, shimmering pink fabric that I must own. The silk is soft against my skin, and the tulle is a whimsical confection, billowing just as beautifully as I imagine a pink cloud. This must be what makes all the difference to a tutu.
I can’t believe that even a century ago, pink was still being associated with femininity and elegance – how great is that! This will look fabulous when I return home, it will be an outstanding addition to my pink tutu wardrobe!
"Let’s Dance: Pink Tutus for Everyone!"
As I prepare for the journey back to my own time, I can't help but wonder: What do you love most about leotards and tutus, darling? I’d love to hear your thoughts about this dance into fashion history. Do you have a favorite era? Let's share the joy of leotards and tutus with the whole world, shall we? We can spread a little sparkle, a touch of magic, and a whole lot of pink throughout history – one pink tutu at a time.
Till next time, let your tutu dreams soar high and shine on!
