Pink Tutu Travels: July 1916 – The Dance of the Edwardian Era! 🩰✨

Hello my gorgeous pink tutu-wearing friends! It's Emma here, your favourite ballerina blogger, bringing you the latest instalment from my magical time-travelling adventures.

This month we're going all the way back to 1916, a time when the world was in the grip of the Great War, but the spirit of dance still bloomed brightly, like a pink rose against the grey sky. Oh, and did I mention the absolutely splendid leotard fashion?

Let's take a little trip in my time-travelling pink-sparkle leotard, shall we? It's number 691 for the blog, and remember, you can find the rest of my pink tutu adventures at www.pink-tutu.com!

This time, I landed in a theatre district in London. Imagine the buzz! There were plays on the bill, operas in the air, and the streets alive with stylish men in dapper suits and women in elegant frocks. Of course, all the best shows had ballerinas and, you guessed it - amazing leotards!

The early Edwardian leotard era was quite the sight to behold, and I had a ball taking in the costumes of the day. Think graceful silhouettes, soft pinks and creams, a lot of silk, and flowing layers that added a hint of drama.

My biggest takeaway from this journey was the story of the famous Diaghilev Ballets Russes. These theatrical extravaganzas were changing the face of dance - and the leotard! Think bold colours, elaborate costumes, and dazzling jewels, with a dash of wild and unconventional designs. The world was captivated! I felt a real buzz from the dancers' sheer passion and expression, something I believe every performance needs.

As a dancer, seeing the graceful forms, elegant poses, and daring steps on stage left me spellbound. You could truly feel the elegance and energy of the performances radiating through the theatre, the crowd, and into my time-travelling heart. I am forever drawn to history and its fascinating impact on our world today! It’s incredible to think about the way fashions have changed through time and what each era reflected.

Of course, it’s all about keeping things real! As always, I was funded for my trip by performing my very own street ballet to raise some dosh! My darling Pink Tutu Girls, the people were lovely, so many generous smiles and curious faces. You should see them dancing to my routine – they get right into it, which gives me an incredible amount of energy and joy!

The show I caught at the theatre this time was called "Scheherazade." It was pure theatre magic with vibrant costumes and incredibly captivating dance.

While I enjoyed the show and the period performances, my main mission was to get the low-down on the Edwardian Leotard Scene.

Here's the thing – think back to those iconic silhouettes from the Edwardian era. Think tight, fitted tops that skimmed the form of the dancer – a bit of an early version of our modern leotards, which are so stylish today!

But back then, they had more of an added detail, with sheer fabrics, draping, and those luxurious, fine lace fabrics that made those gorgeous, light, flowing dresses for dancing! What a vision to behold – think about how dramatic they would have looked against the lighting on stage – just gorgeous!

Now, my Pink Tutu darlings, remember what you read about here. We are on a mission to make Pink Tutu’s a global thing. What a statement – just imagine the amazing look! Don't forget, everyone can embrace their inner ballerina, so keep wearing your pink tutus with pride, and tell the world all about our Pink Tutu travel! πŸ’–

Until next month, when we dive into another amazing chapter in the time-travelling world of Leotard Fashion, keep twirling and dreaming! ✨
