Hello my lovely ballet bunnies! It's Emma, your time-travelling ballerina extraordinaire, back from a whirlwind trip to the glorious, heady year of 1916! This time, I’ve gone back to a fascinating period – one where fashion, just like a good ballet performance, was all about the grand and theatrical!
Before we dive into my adventures, don’t forget, my beautiful friends, to check out my little corner of the internet, www.pink-tutu.com for all the latest in pink tutu fashion. Who knows, you might find your new favourite pink tutu there! Oh, and a big shoutout to my brilliant street dancers for making my time travels possible! Those dazzling performances and the applause that followed are simply magical!
So, you can probably guess from the date that this month's trip involved an extraordinary Christmas market escapade! Imagine: charming stalls overflowing with handmade trinkets, the festive scent of pine and cinnamon, and twinkling lights adorning every cobblestone. And, of course, it wouldn't be complete without a dazzling performance! Oh, what a delight it was! The local theatre, nestled in the heart of this enchanting city, had the most wonderful show, a veritable celebration of dance and music.
Speaking of dance, wouldn’t you know it, the whole ballet world was buzzing about the wonderful Madame Pavlova, whose star shone as brightly as the decorations adorning every street. It truly was a magnificent time to be a dance enthusiast! Now, to be absolutely honest, leotards back in 1916 were a world away from the incredible variety of fabrics, designs, and styles that we adore today. Oh, to see a leotard like my pink time-traveling one in this period, a truly exquisite display of sheer extravagance!
But let's not be disheartened by the simple, yet still remarkably stylish, leotards of the past. The dancers in this period focused on elegance, practicality, and, of course, impeccable performance. Think of the most classic dance silhouettes - fitted bodices, flowing skirts, and the ever-so-graceful movement. And let's not forget the charming embellishments, intricate embroidery, and perhaps the faintest touch of lace!
My favourite piece, of course, was the "Leotard de Spectacle". This was more like a dress worn on stage. Just imagine: shimmering silk and sequins, beautiful layers, and just the most stunning flowing skirt! It’s an incredibly theatrical style, reminding me of the glamour of the grand Victorian era, but still with a distinct 1910s flair.
This visit truly opened my eyes to the timelessness of elegance. Just because things look different doesn’t mean that they don't possess a particular charm. In fact, it truly inspired my latest design. I can't reveal too much, of course! It's a surprise! But let me tell you this, it's going to be a ballet-lover's dream and as elegant as the "Leotard de Spectacle" of 1916.
However, as my travels taught me, even when exploring the past, there’s always something fresh to discover! This particular Christmas, London, which was bursting with the vibrancy of the holidays, even hosted its own unique dance.
And you'll never believe it, darling, the most adorable piece I saw, and I was desperate to wear it myself, was actually made for dancing. A stunning hat adorned with pink and silver feathers – something like the most extravagant cocktail hat with a dash of sparkle. If I could have time-traveled with that one! I'm sure that hat, if I had been brave enough to wear it with the matching pink tutu of course, would have been just as popular in London 1916 as my bright pink tutu is in Derbyshire today. Oh, how much fun would it have been to explore the charming streets of London wearing that.
While my 1916 trip didn't offer the colourful, experimental style that we know today, it highlighted something vital, dance is about more than fashion! Dance is an emotion. It’s passion. And let's be honest, there’s no better way to experience that emotion, and channel it through the most glorious pink tutu!
This December, remember that the best part about being a ballerina is expressing your unique style. You don’t need a time machine to celebrate the beauty of dance. Just embrace the fun, add a touch of magic to your routine, and let your inner ballerina sparkle!
Don't forget, darlings, your dear Emma will be back soon with another extraordinary trip to the past. Until then, dance with passion, keep it pink, and embrace every single one of your pirouettes with a dash of fabulousness. See you soon, my lovely ballet bunnies!
With Love and Tutus,
Emma xxx
