Pink Tutu Time Travels: 7th July 1918 – The Roaring Twenties Dawn (Post #715)

Hello, darlings! It's your favourite pink tutu-clad time traveller, Emma, back with another adventure! This month, we're whisking ourselves back to 7th July 1918. It's an exciting time - just imagine! The war is almost over, and a whole new world of fashion awaits, ripe for exploration. Oh, and a little pink tutu action, of course!

Now, before we delve into the glorious 1918 leotard fashion, let me tell you about my recent escapades. You see, funding my time travels takes some creative thinking, so I've been quite busy in the streets of Derbyshire, dazzling everyone with my latest street ballet routine. Think dazzling pink tutu twirls, playful leaps, and, naturally, a touch of shimmy in my sparkly, pink time travel leotard. The response has been absolutely fantastic! I've been showered with applause, generous tips, and even a few offers to perform in upcoming local shows. It's all so much fun and really helps me keep my time travel wardrobe topped up with new and exciting pieces.

Speaking of time travel, we're landing in 1918 with a bang! Picture this: a vibrant era just bursting with change and the tantalising whiff of the roaring twenties. The war has begun to fade into the rear-view mirror, and everyone's keen to shed their wartime restrictions and embrace something new, something… stylish!

But first, a peek at the leotard fashion of the day! This era marks a thrilling evolution for the leotard, or as they called it then, the 'corset’. It's getting ever so daring - think shorter skirts, slimmer silhouettes, and hints of revealing flesh. It's a move away from the corseted styles of the Victorian era, as the ladies begin to revel in a more carefree and youthful silhouette. Now, while the full-length leotard was not yet a mainstay of stage fashion, we find the body suit, the precursor to our much loved modern day dancewear, getting progressively more daring, sleek, and liberating.

In this world of rising sartorial freedoms, our 7th July 1918 arrival is blessed with a symphony of events!

First, a theatrical performance - the musical ā€œIreneā€ by the legendary Irene Castle opened its doors! Castle was a style icon in the early 1900s. Just imagine! Her grace and elegance have captivated audiences for years, and to see this magnificent lady in her beautiful outfits - you can’t beat that! A touch of inspiration right here for our time travel adventure.

And then, fashion! The most talked-about designers on that very date, July 7th 1918 - well, it’s hard to mention anyone, since at that point, haute couture was only just coming into its own as a world recognised industry. Fashion shows hadn’t quite arrived in their glorious grandeur and so there were no famous designers. But what was going on? What were the biggest trends?

Well, in a nutshell – The wartime trends started to ease, and fashions began to get sassier and funkier! Think flapper dresses, more revealing skirts and tighter bodices - they were flaunting a whole new silhouette. You know the style - a bit cheeky, a bit sassy. But you have to remember the context! Just a few short years earlier, there was a huge push to conserve resources to aid the war effort. It’s no wonder people were looking for new expressions of their style in those post-war years!

We were treated to the glorious return of colour! Think bright vibrant hues replacing those boring old browns and wartime greys. The streets became an explosion of vibrancy! This, of course, sparked the joy in me. It made me yearn to bring the bright vibrancy of my trusty pink tutu and sparkle into the scene. Oh how I wish I could've brought the colours of the rainbow to that bustling city on that fateful July day.

On this 7th July, the world was abuzz with optimism. They saw a world opening up in the wake of the war. We felt it too. Our senses tingled with this palpable energy as the crowds buzzed around us. It was such a delight to soak it all in, just soaking up the spirit and style of the time. This kind of vibrancy and carefree style was totally up my alley. It resonated with the pink-tutu-wearing spirit I bring to this time travel adventures! It was like we were all getting ready to dance into a whole new world of style and joy!

As for me? It's a mission of style! The mission, you might say, is getting the whole world dressed in pink tutus! And frankly, I see such immense potential for pink in 1918! It would be like a breath of fresh air! I mean, can you imagine this scene – flapper girls strutting the streets in chic, vibrant pink tutus, dancing the Charleston, and swirling through those 1920s clubs, oh, the style, the flair! That's exactly what this pink tutu-clad traveller is hoping to inspire. Imagine! Just imagine how exciting it would be. It would be a ballet revolution like you’ve never seen. We could have a whole era of pink! This 7th July 1918 was the perfect setting, don't you think? I am quite serious. Imagine how fantastic this could look - a vibrant pink tutu set against those roaring twenties silhouettes and hues - a total style sensation!

But as we always do, we bid farewell for now. We're always on the move in this grand time travelling fashion extravaganza! There is always another leotard to discover and a new era to sparkle with. We'll meet again next month for another thrilling trip, filled with fun and flair.
